The Elevator Pitch:

Why will you enjoy this new opportunity?

Broadcom's Software Defined Edge division is looking for a highly motivated Cloud performance engineer to join the team that is building a cloud-native real-time controller platform for 5G mobile networks.

The 5G mobile network is undergoing a major transformation into a virtualized, cloud-native, and software-defined network, and in this role, you will be engineering a product at the intersection of cloud and 5G that is envisioned to disrupt the telecom industry.

Knowledge about wireless or mobile radio access networks is a plus but not necessary.

In this role, you will be responsible for product development, testing and automation with focus on cloud software systems to do lifecycle, networking, performance (think thread priorities, distributed memory caching), cloud/infra tuning (think SRIOV, Huge Pages, CPU pinning, K8s static CPU policy) and FCAPS management of an upcoming platform and applications on ANY cloud.

The goal is to make this platform as easy as possible to deploy and operate on day 0/day 1/day2.

You will leverage your experience and expertise in cloud-native development tools such as helm, K8s operators, CNI, networking drivers, and cloud-native applications (think container technologies like Kubernetes and Docker, cloud platforms like VMware, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) to help build a robust cloud software.

In the process, you will work with the latest and greatest in cloud, networking and 5G, collaborate closely with experts in these fields, experience first-hand the process of building a new product portfolio, and work in an environment that provides ample learning and career growth opportunities.

Success in the Role:

What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing? As a cloud performance engineer, you will contribute to lifecycle, performance and FCAPS management for an upcoming VMware product portfolio at the intersection of cloud, networking and 5G.

Within 30 days of joining, you will become familiar with the cloud-native product architecture and the services and APIs offered by the product, and gain hands-on experience with product deployment and operations, build and CI/CD pipelines, and testing and automation frameworks currently used by the team.

Within 60 days, you will create functional specifications to deploy and operate VMware platform. This would require working closely with other teams building libraries, helm charts and tools for build and lifecycle management.

Within 90 days, you will be owning the product performance and testing of the new VMware platform across multiple clouds, contribute to build and CI/CD pipelines.

Within 180 days, you will begin to contribute on FCAPS management of the VMware platform. You will build micro-services, features that are reliable, highly available, scalable, performant and secure.

Within 360 days, you will be the go-to person for all things related to product performance, infrastructure optimization and some critical features of FCAPS management.

The Work:

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?Your regular activities may be modified to suit your professional strengths, but you can expect a variety of the following assignments:

Contribute to development and testing for a new VMware by Broadcom product portfolio; own the end-to-end quality of the components related to product performance, cloud/infra optimization, FCAPS management.

Collaborate with developers from other teams to leverage common libraries and tools for performance tuning, lifecycle, and FCAPS management.

Contribute to the development of component level test plans and test cases.

Automate component level testing and drive automation of system level test automation.

Define and implement CI/CD pipelines to ensure ease of product deployment.

Write documents to install and operate the platform easily.

Collaborate with developers, QA engineers, product managers, solution architects, field engineers and SREs to make the product ease to deploy and operate.
