Project Overview:

Bechtel aims to collaborate with a leading Indian company to offer Project Management Consultant (PMC) Services and Engineering Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) Services for offsites and utilities (OSBL) as part of a multi-billion-dollar upgrade/expansion of their existing petrochemical facilities in India. The PMC Services will be managed from India, with staff stationed in Mumbai, project sites across India, and key contractor locations. EPCM Services for OSBL will be overseen from Bechtel's India offices. Both scopes entail significant job-hours estimated across the board.

Job Summary:

The candidate will handle assigned tasks in the Mechanical engineering field for the project. Utilizing comprehensive engineering knowledge, they will independently address discipline-related issues, liaise with Contractors and Owners to resolve technical queries, and ensure smooth coordination.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and track Contractors' progress in engineering for fired equipment (e.g., Process Fired Heaters, Cracking Furnaces, Thermal Oxidizers, Incinerators, Boilers, and Flare packages).
  • Assess design scope and deliverables in the specified discipline to guarantee Contractors adhere to established standards for safety, health, and environment.
  • Develop Engineering Procedures, design guides, specifications, instructions, philosophies, and criteria.
  • Collaborate with lead discipline engineers to define and document all discipline interfaces.
  • Coordinate with other leaders to address multi-discipline interfaces, resolve technical issues, and conflicting design requirements promptly.
  • Offer technical oversight for fired equipment through deliverable reviews, design assessments, and tasks including Mechanical Equipment Specifications, Datasheets, Material Requisitions, Bid Evaluations, Inspection and Test Plans, Vendor document reviews, Inspection reports, and more.
  • Review Contractors' engineering documents/deliverables in the discipline to ensure adherence to contract requirements, project procedures, specifications, codes, and standards. Monitor review status.
  • Provide support for Equipment list, P&ID, HAZOP/HAZID, Model reviews, studies, etc.
  • Communicate complex technical matters and recommend solutions to project management.
  • Facilitate technical discussions with external parties (clients, suppliers, regulators).
  • Cultivate a work environment supported by leadership that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, innovation, and satisfaction.
  • Participate in project technical reviews, progress, and review meetings.
Education and Experience Requirements:

Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 15 years of pertinent experience.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:
  • Over 15 years of experience in Fired Equipment design related to oil, gas, and chemicals, ideally with an EPC/EPCM contractor or a fired equipment manufacturer. Additional experience in PMC, petrochemicals, systems startup, field engineering, or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities, process plants, or other engineering/construction firms is advantageous.
  • Possession of a Professional Engineering license or Chartered Engineer status in a relevant discipline preferred.
  • Experience with various types of fired/combustion equipment like process fired heaters, flares, thermal oxidizers/incinerators, boilers, WHRU, etc. Profound knowledge of thermal design, simulation software, combustion and draft loss calculations, controls related to fired equipment, and more.
  • Proficiency in writing equipment design specifications for fired equipment.
  • Thorough understanding of applicable API/ISO standards, NFPA regulations, and other industry codes and standards.
  • Preferably experienced in field installation/commissioning activities for fired equipment.
  • Sound knowledge of applying Engineering to plant constructability, construction methods, and materials.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Capable of collaborating in global project teams for project advancement.
