JOB PURPOSE
As a Metadata Specialist, your role is pivotal in advancing our data management capabilities.

Leveraging metadata cataloging skills, a deep understanding of data governance, and strong communication skills, you will lead workshops and initiatives to enrich our data catalog.

Taking ownership of our metadata catalog, you will drive best practices, foster a metadata culture, and enhance cataloging processes to increase data fluency across teams, making a lasting impact on our data landscape.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIESLead the design and development of a comprehensive metadata framework, ensuring alignment with organizational data governance objectivesOversee the establishment and documentation of data lineage, providing a clear understanding of how data flows through various systems and processesOwn and enhance the metadata cataloging strategy, ensuring the systematic documentation of data assets, definitions, and relationshipsContribute to the formulation and enforcement of data governance policies, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and organizational standardsCollaborate with cross-functional teams, including data stewards, architects, and engineers to ensure effective communication and implementation of data governance practicesImplement and oversee quality assurance measures for metadata, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency in metadata documentationLead workshops and training sessions on metadata best practices, fostering a metadata-centric culture within the organizationDrive continuous improvement initiatives for metadata management processes, staying abreast of industry trends and emerging technologiesConduct regular audits to assess the effectiveness of data governance practices, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring adherence to policiesWork closely with IT and other functional teams to integrate metadata practices into the overall governance framework, ensuring seamless coordination and alignment with technology initiativesImplement strategies to increase data fluency across business teams by promoting the use of metadata for informed decision-makingProactively identify and resolve metadata-related issues, working with relevant stakeholders to maintain the integrity and reliability of metadataFoster a strong relationship with Alation, ensuring effective communication, and addressing any issues or concerns promptlyCollaborate with Alation representatives and community to stay informed about updates, new features, and roadmap plansEstablish and enforce documentation standards for metadata, contributing to a well-organized and easily accessible metadata repositoryDevelop and lead training programs for internal teams on new Alation functionalities, ensuring that users are proficient in leveraging the platform's full capabilitiesKEY QUALIFICATION &

EXPERIENCES:
Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, math, Information Technology, Engineering or related field.

Minimum of 8+years' experience with data management/governance with a focus on metadata managementPreferred:
experience in CPG or food and beverageCommunication and influencing skills Strong facilitation and project leadership skills with the ability to drive issues to closureDemonstrated ability to influence and foster collaborative relationships with ability to engage resources outside of direct-control to gain consensus, meet deadlines and achieve goals and objectivesExceptional communication skills, both verbal and writtenPositive attitude and a team playerExperience and flexible self-started Experience working on an agile team in a virtual, distributed environmentAbility to work in a fast-paced environment and participate as an independent contributor with little supervision or as an active team member depending on the situation and needsTooling Must have working experience of Alation or equivalent data cataloging toolProficient in SQLPreferred: experience working in SAP for master data managementPreferred: experience working with PIM, Salesforce, MDM systemsNice to have: Rest API
