The DevOps team is responsible for optimizing the deployment and management of Illumina's global Cloud-based Global informatics assets. We also provide front-line development and operational support of these assets.

You will be working on various cutting-edge DevOps tools and technologies sunch as Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, Public/Private Cloud, Kubernetes, docker etc.

to manage Cloud-based enterprise applications.

As a DevOps Sr, Staff Engineer and a technical lead, you will be a part of the team that provides breakthrough genomic informatics solutions worldwide to enable the transformation of human health through DNA sequencing.

You will bring a technical leadership, subject matter expertise and focus on Architecting DevOps tools, continuous integration and deployment pipelines.

Your charter is to collaborate with Engineering, Test, and DevOps to consolidate frameworks and automate as possible from code analysis, build, integration with test automation suites, and ultimately enabling 'hands-off' deployments to global AWS environments.

You will support our cloud SAAS globally as a member of our DevOps team and proactively collaborate with the US, UK and Singapore teams to ensure service continuity and security.

Tasks and ResponsibilitiesAn essential member of the team that fosters a team focused environment and can lead major aspects of projects

Owns/designs one or more large subsystems

Provide technical leadership in planning, staffing, and delivering projects within Development operations group.


Contributes to interdepartmental and external schedules and for delivery of projects within the overall time frame and budget established jointly with management.

Works towards annual objectives.

Influence decisions at critical interfaces to other disciplines


Assure security controls to achieve ISO-27001 Information security, HIPAA and other global standards are implemented, rigorously maintained, and provide evidence in support of auditing requirements.

Translates strategic priorities into operational reality; setting clear objectives, assigns resources, following process, monitoring and correcting, and measuring results.

Automates and implements of highly available and resilient platforms in public clouds, without manual or direct intervention

Provide third level support and administration for the Informatics global estates.

Participates in follow-the-sun on call rotation

Implementation and maintenance of workflows and procedures to ensure consistency and auditability in a managed infrastructure

Providing recommendations for risk mitigation in area of responsibility and at critical interfaces to other teams

Drives culture of quality of service and security by design; recommends procedures to enforce security and regulatory compliance

Anticipates problems well in advance, proposes solutions and drives to conclusion

Leverages knowledge to mentor/help others to design systems and/or solve complex system problems across team boundaries


Demonstrates a "one company" approach; discourages "we-they" thinking; fostering collaboration across functions and locations; removes barriers to teamwork; anticipates and works to resolve potential or emerging conflicts.

Write and peer review automation code with an eye to creating a flexible, resilient, scalable, and secure service offering


Collaborate deeply with Product Security and with Corporate Cyber Security to refine security controls, test Incident Response procedures, and support security incident investigations and risk mitigation.

Collaborate with product development and other cross-functional teams (Product Security, System Test, Quality) to ensure there is a convergence of business, technical and security requirements, and unarticulated needs; liaise within GIS to align existing enterprise tooling and/or security controls with resourcing and architectural requirements.

Actively supports project teams when issues are raised, and helps team to understand business needs, customer requirements, and resource constraints

Position Requirements:
Expertise in administration, configuration, optimization and monitoring of Linux, related distros, and SAAS infrastructure at scale

Experience with AWS and/or other public cloud-based deployment and support

The ability to pick up new technologies quickly and rapidly deep-dive

Experience delivering and operating in a HIPAA, ISO-27001, GDPR, or other regulated environment

Advanced knowledge of virtual network design, Internet protocols, and can trouble shoot complex network infrastructure

A strong preference for collaborative teamwork and work/knowledge sharing

Be comfortable speaking with internal customers, and suppliers

A driving needs to fix a problem only once

Programming/Language skills – bash scripting, Python, GO, SQL, NoSQL, log query languages, or related

Recognized as an expert in a field important to company, an architect. Can configure, administer, analyze performance, and monitor one or moreo Large scale data systems including Relational DB, ELK, Mongoo Virtual compute systems, and/or Kubernetes, Docker containers, Hadoopo Messaging systems including RabbitMQ, Kafka, Service Buso Network infrastructure, cyber security controls, and/or other emerging technologies

Experience in implementing infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform, Ansible, and Cloud Formation

Preferred Education/Experience:
A minimum of 12 years' experience

Bachelor of Science degree in a Computer or Engineering related discipline or equivalent experience.

Experience in Software as a Service in public clouds, with at least 5+ years directly focused on deployment, configuration management, and automation
