As a member of the Verizon Design Systems team, you will drive the continued evolution and adoption of a world-class, multi-channel Design System comprising a visual language, an interaction language, a verbal and audio language, patterns for use, and coded templates and components for implementation.

The Design System team provides creative direction, interfaces with teams across our B2C, B2B, Media, Technology, and Marketing divisions, and is accountable for the successful development and integration of the Design System into hundreds of millions of dollars of development work that enables billions of customer touchpoints.


As a Senior Engineer Consultant, you will help developers learn about the Verizon Design System and understand the best ways to integrate the system into their applications and workflows.

You will code and create the visual front-end elements of the design system component library, documentation, and usage guidelines within the Verizon Design System and build training materials and usage examples that will enable developers to effectively utilize the system within their applications.


You will be responsible for developing solutions to system initiatives, scripting coding, and testing component interfaces, and resolving issues occurring within programming independently.

Working with partners in product, technology, and business, you will collaborate on a wide range of design programs or products.


Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:

  • Simplifying intricate subjects into content that is easily understood, digestible, and actionable.
  • Creating patterns for the Verizon Design System to create a consistent user experience.
  • Thoroughly exploring, refining, and documenting the development solutions.
  • Actively exploring user context, and engaging in target user activities when possible.
  • Participating in insightgathering activities (informal or formal, primary or secondary) and creating solutions that leverage user insights.
  • Actively researching competitive products, industry trends, and topics, and recommending activities, solutions, and methods to guide team members and stakeholders
  • Staying updated on Verizon's business, strategy, and organizational structure.
  • Effectively designing solutions within Verizon's business context and revenue model.
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of UI standards for common platforms (iOS, Android, Web).
  • Working within Verizon's frontend and backend technology constraints and capabilities.
  • Giving and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Communicating the current project plan, goals, and expected outcomes.
  • Articulating user, business, and/or technical reasoning for detailed design decisions in critiques or presentations.
  • Mentoring peers and new hires by sharing experiences and processes to enable growth.
  • Identifying project needs and engaging stakeholders in conversation to fully understand needs.
  • Presenting work and engaging in constructive dialogue with stakeholders to understand the context of tasks and ensure strong design rationale.
  • Contributing to recommendations for shaping appropriate user insightgathering activities (informal or formal, primary or secondary).
  • Playing a role in evolving the design system by proposing updates and participating in feedback opportunities
  • Exploring, refining, and documenting engineering solutions while adhering to design system guidelines
  • Participate in the interview and evaluation process as requested, based on the interview approach defined by the team.
What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with Agile software delivery environments.
  • Experience with common design software (Figma, Adobe, etc.).
  • Experience with UI Architecture, Responsive design, SPA, and/or Design Patterns.
  • Experience frontend technologies of React JS and TypeScript.
  • Experience writing code and maintainable software.
  • Experience with web performance, web accessibility, release cycle management, CI/CD pipeline, and/or SDLC Process.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science.
  • Portfolio of professional work.
  • Experience with Agile software delivery environments.
  • Contributed to multiple design programs or shipped products with a large user base.
  • Contributed to overall product success.
  • Experience with Fortune 500 organizational environments.
  • Experience with Redux, React Native, JavaScript (ES5, ES6), Object Oriented JavaScript, Webpack, Rollup, Ajax, SCSS, Styled Component, HTML5, and/or CSS
  • Experience Micro Frontend, Next JS.
  • Handson experience in writing Unit Tests using Jest.
