Brief Description about the Project:


The Harmony study is a five-year research project on extending an intervention into a scalable model delivered by primary care nurses, by integrating behavioural couples therapy (BCT) with a motivational interviewing (MI) component for Alcohol Use Disorder to reduce Intimate Partner Violence and alcohol use among couples living in low-income areas with limited literacy in Bangalore, South India.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Undergo training in qualitative study design, procedures, techniques, and documentation associated with the qualitative component. Training on the overall study and relevant aspects of its conduct, as well as gender sensitivity will be included in this training.
  • Establish a comfortable and safe environment for the participant(s), eliciting discussion on a predetermined list of topics of interest and probing further when appropriate.
  • Ensure completion of the interview audio recording and transcription.
  • May also be involved in translation, coding, and analysis of transcriptions.
  • Attend regular meetings with the qualitative lead regarding scheduling of interviews, debrief, conduct of interviews, transcription, and documentation.
  • Willing to work late evening in the Field or office.
  • Willing to work on Sundays and holidays, and take compensatory offs as per SJRI rules.

Preferred skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication in Kannada. Basic Englishspeaking skills (sufficient for comprehension of study materials, training, and supervision).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills & is a team player.
  • Efficient timemanagement skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Needs to be organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Comfort discussing sensitive topics such as alcohol use and intimate partner violence in a nonjudgmental manner
  • Ability to establish rapport and work effectively with individuals of varying ethnicities, socioeconomic status, caste, gender, and sexual orientation.

Experience:

  • Experience with qualitative interviewing is essential.
Experience with qualitative coding, working with low-income populations, and interviewing individuals on sensitive topics is preferable.

Education:

M.A. or M.Sc. in Psychology or Social Work

Language:

Fluent in spoken and written Kannada. Basic English-speaking skills.

Salary:
₹30,000.00 per month
