Why this job matters

The purpose of the role is to improve the quality of performance testing being undertaken related to their specialism, by applying their knowledge of the specialism to the activities performed by the test organisation. You will also be responsible for implementing latest technology, in line with our continuous integration and delivery goals. Working collaboratively across both QA and Engineering to achieve testability, maintainability and scalability of our software products, providing technical guidance and coaching throughout.

What I'll be doing – your accountabilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand performance requirements.
  • Develop a performance test strategy and plan based on project objectives.
  • Identify performance acceptance criteria.
  • Design performance test scenarios based on system architecture and user behavior.
  • Create performance test scripts using performance testing tools like JMeter, LoadRunner, or Gatling.
  • Configure test environment and test data to simulate real-world conditions.
  • Define workload models and determine load profiles.
  • Execute performance tests according to the defined scenarios and scripts.
  • Monitor system resources (CPU, memory, disk I/O, network) during test execution.
  • Identify and report any test environment or test script issues.
  • Analyze test results to identify performance bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
  • Generate comprehensive performance test reports summarizing test findings, recommendations, and potential solutions.

Skills Required

  • Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter, LoadRunner, Blazemeter, Apache Bench, or Gatling. This includes proficiency in creating test scripts, executing tests, and analyzing results using these tools.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, or scripting languages like JavaScript, Groovy, or VBScript, depending on the tools being used.
  • Ability to monitor system resources (CPU, memory, disk I/O, network) during test execution and analyze performance metrics to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential for identifying performance issues and troubleshooting them effectively.

Experience you would be expected to have

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software development, or a related field.
  • Previous experience as a performance test engineer.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C# and Java.
  • Excellent mathematical and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly accurate and detail-oriented. Growth mindset, with the ability to assess new tools and industry trends to ensure most effective tools and approaches employed.
  • Able to assess the technical risks inherent in a software and infrastructure platforms in respect of performance and resilience
  • Interpretation of System Resource Monitoring outputs to determine pinch points in CPU, Memory, Disk i/o and Network circuits Risk Analysis and articulation of the NFT Approach for a Project Testing Requirement
  • Technical Development of automation scripts based on appropriate HTTPS, SQL or Web Protocols to emulate volumes of traffic on the System Under Test
