Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries.

We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.

The Azure PostgreSQL group is hiring Principal Software Engineering Manager to lead PostgreSQL Engine team.

We are looking for a technically hands on leader who enjoys building highly motivated teams, helping team members plan their careers and provide them with the best opportunities available.

Experience in building database features and functionality at cloud scale, PostgreSQL internals and Linux knowledge is preferred for this role.

Qualifications


Required/Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Pythono OR equivalent experience.

Other RequirementsAbility to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.

These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 15+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Pythono OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Pythono OR equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Review architectural, design and code changes in core PostgreSQL engine.
  • Inspire & educate the team to make choices which has security at its core.
  • Lead the efforts to maintain healthy operations of engine components which are part of the PostgreSQL managed service.
  • Support the team in building frameworks, analyzing and fixing performance bottlenecks found at cloud scale.
  • Guide the team in building prototypes to evaluate design and architectural options for v0.01 projects.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to team members.
  • Help the team with career planning and finding opportunities to create significant impact.
