This role may evolve into Head of Engineering/VP Engineering for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Backend System Architecture: Lead the design and implementation of robust backend architectures, focusing on scalability, security, and efficiency. Ensure that the backend systems can handle high volumes of traffic and data with high availability.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Manage and mentor a team of backend engineers. Set goals, review performance, and provide guidance and support to promote career growth and maintain high engagement levels.
  • Project and Resource Management: Oversee multiple projects, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and projects are delivered on time. Manage the team's development workflow using agile methodologies.
  • DevOps and Infrastructure: Enhance and maintain our CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code. Ensure that deployment strategies are efficient and scalable across multiple environments.
  • Feature Development: Spearhead the development of complex backend features like advanced search functionalities and efficient data retrieval systems.
  • Database Management: Oversee database architecture and management strategies, ensuring data integrity, performance, and scalability.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with other team leaders and stakeholders to align backend strategies with the overall business goals. Communicate technical plans and goals effectively to both technical and non-technical team members.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-6 years of experience in backend development, with a proven track record of managing backend systems and teams.
  • Strong expertise in modern backend technologies and programming languages such as Python, Go, etc.
  • Experienced with DevOps tools and practices, cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Deep understanding of database technologies (SQL and NoSQL) and search engines like Elasticsearch or Solr.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with experience leading small to medium-sized teams.
  • Strong project management skills and experience using agile methodologies.
