Position Summary:


Bechtel is seeking a Reference Database (RDB) Administrator to join the PD&P department within the Manufacturing and Technology Business Unit (M&T).


The prime roles and responsibilities include:

Job Dimensions
A. Supervision Received

  • Performs most assignments independently with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives technical guidance from Engineering Specialists or Supervisors on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed project plans.
B. Supervision Exercised

  • Provides operational direction and technical guidance to subordinate designer and drafter personnel as directed.
C. Contacts

  • Establishes and maintains communication with design and engineering supervisors in charge of related disciplines and with administrative personnel within the group or project. Consults with suppliers, module yards, design and construction subcontractors, technical specialists, other disciplines/funtions and client representatives as directed to provide and receive technical information and to ensure the coordination of the work within the project or assignment and compliance with Bechtel/client requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • The RDB Administrator is a 3D/SRD Integration Specialist position.
  • Creates and checks Smart Reference Data (SRD) geometrics in accordance with Industry Design Codes and project requirements.
  • Extracts SRD piping data for 3D modelling and generates required validation reports.
  • Configures validation requirements for SRD to 3D modeling systems (S3D) adopting a practical approach to solving piping material problems with good understanding of the requirements of 3D modelling.
  • Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work for a global business unit usually in one discipline in a project or staff group.
  • Issues and maintains piping and valve material specifications utilizing SmartPlant Reference Data.
  • Develops component commodity codes for company and project specific databases based on industry standards, manufacturer specific construction and corporate coding structure.
  • Develops technical, design and purchasing specifications for all bulk piping components.
  • Makes decisions concerning problems within the discipline on the project.
  • Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the daytoday technical work of discipline engineers, scientists, specialists, designers and drafters.
  • Supports function initiatives of developing Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) and administrative practices.
  • Coordinates assigned design work with other project groups.
  • Supports the creation of a work environment, supported by leadership, which fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • AA/AS degree or certification in an engineering curriculum or drafting/design with 10 years of experience in piping design utilizing Smart 3D (S3D) and RDB; or in lieu of degree, a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 15 years of related experience in piping design utilizing Smart 3D (S3D).
  • General knowledge of technical responsibilities of other groups associated with the total design effort.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge in material requirements for Acoustic Induced Vibration mitigation is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel Engineering Department Procedures.
  • Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more of the following market segments: Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, or Data Center.
