Meet Our Team:

WBD Sports encompasses a wide range of sports brands and channels, reaching over 130 million people monthly in more than 200 markets and 20+ languages.

Key brands include Bleacher Report, Eurosport and TNT Sports. WBD Sports offers a comprehensive coverage of major sports events, like the Olympics in Europe, tennis Grand Slams and road cycling Grand Tours (e.g. Tour de France) across various platforms including TV and streaming services like Max and Discovery+.

Additionally, it manages and promotes 55 global events annually. TNT Sports UK features exclusive live sports such as the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 15-20 software engineers, fostering a high-performance engineering culture.

• Own and drive key initiatives supporting the developer workflow from PR to release.

• Foster collaboration with cross-functional partners and other engineering teams to drive alignment on technical and product roadmaps.

• Provide technical guidance and ensure architectural and code quality standards.

• Contribute to the technical vision and architecture for our platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and efficiency.

• Monitor, review, and coach developer and manager performance; conduct regular performance appraisals and provide growth opportunities.

• Own the hiring, onboarding, and development of engineers, ensuring a diverse and high-performing team.

• Drive technical innovation and advocate for engineering best practices.

• Facilitate knowledge sharing and cross-team collaboration within WBD Sports.

  • Act as a culture carrier, fostering a high-performing, inclusive and collaborative environment aligned with WBD's guiding principles and Global Sports Technology ambitions.

  • Provide mentorship and leadership across the broader team, supporting talent development, succession planning and organizational health.

What to Bring:

• 14+ years of professional experience in software development, of which 5+ years involves direct management of a team of 15 or more full time employees.

• 5+ years of experience in frontend development, e.g., Swift, Kotlin.

• Proven experience operating at a senior level in a continuous delivery organisation that uses Agile methodologies (ceremonies) and tools (Jira). Comfortable working on early iterations of solutions without clearly-defined parameters, and the ability to lead a team which has autonomy in their day-to-day decisions.

• Demonstrated advanced understanding of troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, application design, solution development, human factors/usability design and implementation of projects for major business units or the enterprise.

• Extensive experience building, delivering, profiling and optimising client apps.

• Operational excellence experience, monitoring and incident management.

• Ability to translate business requirements to technical architecture and designs.

• A general understanding of DevOps CI/CD tools (Github Actions) and implementation best practices.

• Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving and data-driven decision-making skills with a keen attention to detail.

• Demonstrated ability as an execution-driven self-starter who takes initiative, follows through, and ensures things get done efficiently.

• Comfortable communicating with stakeholders from internal technical and nontechnical members, product managers, C-level management.

• Experience mentoring engineers.

• Ability to work cross-functionally and drive team alignment with business goals.

• Master's degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.

• Passion for sports, technology and the evolving landscape of digital fan engagement is preferred.
