Job description


The Head of Pre-Production (HoD) is responsible for overseeing and managing all pre-production activities for media projects, including films, TV shows, advertisements, and digital content. The HoD works closely with directors, writers, producers, and production teams to ensure creative and logistical readiness before the project enters production.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the pre-production process, from concept development to production readiness.
  • Collaborate with directors, producers, and writers to refine scripts and concepts.
  • Lead and manage pre-production teams, including scriptwriters, storyboard artists, location scouts, production designers, and casting directors.
  • Assign tasks and ensure efficient workflow within the department.
  • Facilitate effective communication between different departments (Production, Art, Costumes, etc.).
  • Develop and oversee pre-production budgets, ensuring cost-effective planning.
  • Work with the production team to create and maintain pre-production schedules.
  • Identify potential risks and develop contingency plans.
  • Organize script readings, rehearsals, and initial character development workshops.
  • Supervise location scouting and finalization based on creative and logistical needs.
  • Work closely with the production design team to plan set construction and visual elements.
  • Ensure all pre-production legal formalities, including contracts, permissions, and rights acquisitions, are completed.
  • Maintain compliance with industry regulations, copyrights, and safety standards.


Qualifications & Skills:


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • 7+ years of experience in pre-production roles.
  • Strong knowledge of filmmaking, script development, budgeting, and production logistics.
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
