Back End Developer

Start Date: November 15th, 2025 Gabeo.ai is a fast-growing, venture-backed health technology startup partnering with leading healthcare organizations. We build AI-driven products for revenue cycle management, helping hospitals recover lost revenue and understand their data. We are scaling our engineering team quickly and looking for a Backend Software Engineer who is versatile across backend, cloud, DevOps, and occasionally frontend or desktop frameworks. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys owning systems end to end, moving fast in a startup environment, and working across multiple technologies. What You’ll Do: Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Python (FastAPI and Flask) Architect and implement high-performance, async FastAPI endpoints for healthcare billing analysis Design and maintain RESTful APIs with clear, consistent contracts and strong API design principles Manage and optimize SQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL or similar), including schema design, complex queries, indexing, transactions, and query optimization Build data processing pipelines for healthcare EDI files (835, 837) and other structured data Develop cloud-native solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including: Cloud Run for containerized deployments Cloud SQL for managed databases Cloud Storage for object storage Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub and related services for pipelines and messaging Implement authentication and authorization (JWT, OAuth2) and security best practices across services Contribute to DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation (Docker, Terraform or similar) Set up and improve logging, monitoring and error tracking, and troubleshoot production issues Support frontend components with Next.js and React when needed (not the primary focus) Collaborate on Golang-based projects such as parsers, system tools or desktop utilities Maintain and enhance desktop applications built with Fyne (Windows and macOS) Optimize API response times and overall system performance Write clean, maintainable and well-documented code with strong unit and integration test coverage (pytest, etc.) Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions and continuous improvement of our systems Required Skills and Experience 2–4 years of professional software development experience (3+ years of backend-focused experience strongly preferred) Strong proficiency in Python with FastAPI and/or Flask Proven track record of building and deploying production-grade backend systems Solid SQL expertise and experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL Understanding of database indexing, transactions and performance optimization Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, ideally including: Cloud Run Cloud SQL Cloud Storage Pub/Sub or similar services Familiarity with GCP networking and IAM concepts Experience with ORMs (for example SQLAlchemy) Understanding of API authentication and authorization patterns (JWT, OAuth2) Knowledge of containerization and deployment best practices with Docker Familiarity with DevOps practices including CI/CD, deployment and monitoring Basic or intermediate knowledge of Next.js and React.js Comfortable with Git and collaborative development workflows Preferred Skills (Huge Plus) *PLEASE READ* Proficiency in Golang for backend services, parsers or system tools Experience with the Fyne framework for desktop apps on Windows and macOS Prior work with EDI file parsing, data pipelines or automation in healthcare or fintech Experience with healthcare data standards such as HL7, EDI and FHIR Knowledge of data warehouse solutions such as BigQuery or similar tools Experience with message queues such as Pub/Sub, RabbitMQ or Redis Familiarity with WebSocket implementations for real-time features Knowledge of caching strategies (Redis, Memcached or similar) Experience with API documentation tools such as OpenAPI/Swagger Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (Terraform or similar) Experience with data processing libraries such as Pandas and NumPy Data Structures and Algorithms proficiency Google Cloud Platform certifications (Professional Cloud Architect, Professional Cloud Developer, Associate Cloud Engineer, etc.) How You Work Strong problem-solving and debugging abilities Systems thinking – you understand how components interact and scale Clear communication – you can explain technical decisions and document systems Ownership mindset – you take responsibility from design to production and follow through Performance consciousness – you care about efficiency and real-world behavior of your code Security awareness – you understand common vulnerabilities and best practices Adaptable and proactive across different tech stacks Continuous learner who stays current with backend technologies and cloud services Why Join Gabeo.ai Fast-paced startup where your work has immediate, visible impact Opportunity to work across multiple layers of the stack: backend, cloud, DevOps, frontend and desktop Remote-first culture with ownership of deliverables and autonomy in how you work Chance to shape the architecture and foundation of a high-traction Silicon Valley health-tech startup Work closely with a senior, highly technical team on meaningful problems in healthcare If this sounds like you, please apply
