As a Should Costing Engineer at MachineMaze, you will play a pivotal role in transforming our cost optimization strategies across critical product lines. Your expertise will directly influence procurement decisions, supplier negotiations, and product design driving both profitability and innovation. You'll be instrumental in shaping how we engineer cost-effective solutions for a global manufacturing ecosystem, supporting AI-driven sourcing intelligence and scalable vendor networks.

What You'll Be Doing:

·  Should Cost Analysis

  • Build and refine cost models for mechanical, electrical, and electronic components.
  • Execute should-costing exercises for fabricated, machined, cast, and plastic parts.
  • Benchmark supplier quotes against in-house estimates to ensure cost accuracy.

Cost Breakdown & Modeling

  • Deconstruct total cost into granular elements — material, labor, overheads, and margin.
  • Analyze manufacturing steps including tooling, utilization, scrap rates, and cycle time.

Strategic Support for Sourcing & Negotiations

  • Provide actionable cost data to enable supplier negotiations and contract optimization.
  • Collaborating with sourcing leads to uncover savings through VE/VA and design tweaks.

Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Partner with Design, NPD, Finance, and Operations to validate costs and optimize designs.
  • Advise engineers on the cost implications of design changes to maintain competitive pricing.

Market Intelligence & Benchmarking

  • Conduct research on commodity pricing, process economics, and labor trends.
  • Benchmark internal data with industry and global cost standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Production, or Industrial Engineering.
  • 5–10 years of experience in cost engineering, should costing, or precision manufacturing.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing processes such as casting, forging, stamping, molding, and machining.
  • Familiarity with ERP and costing systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.).
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Advanced Excel and costing tools usage for modeling and simulations.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with cost modeling software (e.g., aPriori, Teamcenter, Costimator).
  • Background in value engineering/value analysis (VE/VA).
  • Knowledge of supplier ecosystems in automotive, aerospace, or industrial products.
  • Exposure to global sourcing practices and commodity trend forecasting.
