Optum AI is UnitedHealth Group's enterprise AI team. We are AI/ML scientists and engineers with deep expertise in AI/ML engineering for health care. We develop AI/ML solutions for the highest impact opportunities across UnitedHealth Group businesses including UnitedHealthcare, Optum Financial, Optum Health, Optum Insight, and Optum Rx. In addition to transforming the health care journey through responsible AI/ML innovation, our charter also includes developing and supporting an enterprise AI/ML development platform.

• Partner with world-class experts on innovative solutions: Our team members are developing novel AI/ML solutions to business challenges. In some cases, this includes the opportunity to file patents and publish papers about the methods we develop. We also collaborate with AI/ML researchers at some of the world's top universities.

Primary Responsibilities:

Develop advanced quantitative modules using a variety of programs/software to support predictive assessmentResponsible for communicating analytics model behavior/results to businessResponsible for carrying out technical risk analysis and reliability assessmentsResponsible for performing complex analyses, including optimization, text analytics, machine learning, social-science modeling, and statistical analysis, parametric and non-parametric statistical models and techniquesProvide recommendations for plans, programs, strategies, policies, and budgetsResponsible for the design of algorithms that require different models/methods to be used togetherResponsible for driving data quality throughout the organizationApply solid understanding of data science techniques and libraries to business problemsDirect data science teams to complete all project deliverablesTake a leadership role in the data science community of experts, specifically in the NLP domainComply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). The Company may adopt, vary or rescind these policies and directives in its absolute discretion and without any limitation (implied or otherwise) on its ability to do so

Required Qualifications:

Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Operations Research, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or Engineering, or in a related field, but a Master's degree is preferred8+ years of experience in Data Science or related fields8+ years of work experience with at least one of the following languages: Python, Java, and RExperience with at least one NLP technique such as word embeddings (word2vec, GloVe, fasttext, Transformers), topic modeling (LSA/LSI, LDA, NMF)Comprehensive knowledge of modern data science and product/web analytics tools and techniques, including Python and associated data science ecosystem, Machine Learning, Google Cloud Data platform: BigQuery, Dataflow, etc. Broad knowledge and understanding of advanced statistical, machine learning, and/or data mining techniquesAbility to develop and manage complex projects, leading an interdisciplinary team to achieve project goalsAbility to provide mentorship and guidance for the efficient and technical development of the members of your teamAdvanced quantitative and statistical analysis skills to solve business problems and provide practical business insight using data and a quantitative/scientific approachKnowledge of machine learning algorithms such as dimensionality reduction (PCA, SVD, UMAP, t-SNE), decision trees, random forest, gradient boosted trees, logistic regression, DBSCAN, K-means, hierarchical clustering, deep learning (sequential models like RNN/LSTM, convolutional neural networks, attention-based transformers, GANs)Proven exceptional verbal and written communication skills to relate with and supervise teams, as well as to communicate technical content and analytical insights/complex findings in a clear and concise manner to multiple audiences, including senior management
