Senior Performance Test Engineer

Job Summary :

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Performance Tester to join our dynamic team in Pune.

As a Senior Performance Tester, you will be responsible for leading and executing performance testing activities for our applications and systems.

You will play a crucial role in ensuring the scalability, stability, and responsiveness of our software products under various load conditions.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of performance testing methodologies, tools, and best practices, along with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

You will also be expected to mentor junior team members and contribute to the improvement of our performance testing processes.

Responsibilities :

Test Strategy and Planning :

- Develop comprehensive performance test strategies, test plans, and test scenarios based on system requirements and performance goals.

- Identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and define performance acceptance criteria.

- Estimate testing efforts, resources, and timelines.

- Collaborate with development, architecture, and business teams to understand performance requirements and design effective test approaches.

Test Script Development and Execution :

- Design, develop, and maintain performance test scripts using industry-standard tools (e.g, JMeter, LoadRunner, Gatling).

- Execute various types of performance tests, including load testing, stress testing, endurance testing, spike testing, and scalability testing.

- Configure and manage test environments, including setting up necessary infrastructure and data.

- Troubleshoot and debug performance test scripts.

Performance Monitoring and Analysis :

- Monitor system performance during testing using various monitoring tools (e.g, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana).

- Analyze test results, identify performance bottlenecks, and provide detailed reports with actionable recommendations for improvement.

- Diagnose root causes of performance issues and collaborate with development teams to resolve them.

- Interpret performance metrics and present findings to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.

Reporting and Documentation :

- Prepare comprehensive performance test reports, including test execution summaries, performance analysis, and recommendations.

- Document test plans, test cases, and test results.

- Communicate test progress, risks, and issues to relevant stakeholders.

Collaboration and Communication :

- Work closely with development, QA, DevOps, and business teams throughout the software development lifecycle.

- Participate in performance reviews and provide feedback on system design and architecture.

- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Process Improvement and Mentorship :

- Contribute to the development and improvement of performance testing methodologies, standards, and best practices.

- Evaluate and recommend new performance testing tools and technologies.

- Mentor and guide junior performance testers, providing technical assistance and knowledge sharing.

- Participate in knowledge sharing sessions and training programs.

Automation :

- Identify opportunities for automating performance testing processes.

- Develop and implement automation frameworks for performance testing.

- Integrate performance testing into the CI/CD pipeline.

Required Skills and Experience :

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

- 6-9 years of hands-on experience in performance testing of web applications, APIs, and microservices.

- Strong understanding of performance testing concepts, methodologies, and best practices.

- Proficiency in using at least one industry-standard performance testing tool such as JMeter (mandatory), LoadRunner, or Gatling.

- Experience with performance monitoring tools like AppDynamics (preferred), Dynatrace, New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana.

- Solid understanding of application architectures, including web servers, application servers, databases, and network components.

- Experience in analyzing performance test results, identifying bottlenecks, and providing recommendations for optimization.

- Strong scripting skills in languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScript (for test automation).

- Experience working with different protocols such as HTTP/HTTPS, SOAP, REST, JMS, etc.

- Familiarity with database performance testing (e.g, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).

- Experience with cloud environments (e.g, AWS, Azure, GCP) and performance testing in the cloud is a plus.

- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and integrating performance testing within them.

- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.

- Strong communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
