The Vice Chancellor of a Medical University functions as the Chief Executive & Academic Head at the University leading with purpose, vision, and heart. The role holder oversees a wide range of responsibilities—from academics & research excellence to operations including financial and people leadership, student experience, success & well-being and global partnerships.
The position is as much about strategy and innovation as it is about building strong teams, nurturing/mentoring talent, and ensuring students and faculty thrive in a dynamic, future-ready environment.
Key Duties & Accountabilities:
1. Strategic Academic Leadership
- Lead the strategy, vision and direction of the university to align with global standards and emerging trends in education and healthcare.
- Drive the continuous improvement of curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessment based on learning outcomes, technological advancement, and industry needs.
2. Research and Innovation Development
- Build a vibrant research culture by supporting faculty and students in scholarly activities, publishing, and securing research funding.
- Strengthen institutional frameworks and administrative systems to facilitate cutting-edge
research and seamless academic operations.
3. Institutional Governance and Compliance
- Ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory, and accreditation requirements (UGC,
NMC, MCI, etc.).
- Oversee the functioning of statutory bodies such as the Academic Council, Finance
Committee, and Board of Management with a focus on governance, transparency, and
accountability.
4. External Engagement and Representation
- Represent the university at national and international platforms to build visibility and
reputation.
- Establish partnerships with academic institutions, healthcare providers, research bodies,
and industries to support student internships, placements, and knowledge exchange.
5. Student Success
- Champion student welfare, mentoring, career readiness, and holistic development.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and intellectually stimulating campus environment.
Qualifications
- A distinguished academician, with teaching experience in a reputed institution, within -a private university system .
- A medical Doctor or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from a premier institution with experience in academic education, research, curriculum development, Administration, management is required. Qualifications and experience in medicine / allied healthcare institutions is a distinct advantage.
- Minimum 10+ Years of experience as professor or equivalent positions held in university system or reputed research or academic administrative organizations is required.
- Proven expertise in steering institution toward top NIRF rankings /NAAC accreditations etc.
- Must have significant leadership experience in developing and executing a strategic vision; a persuasive and sophisticated communicator who can advance the institution's reputation.
- An inspirational leader with intellectual breadth, strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated expertise in research-driven programs and policies, experience developing and leveraging partnerships, and success leading diverse, complex teams and organizations.
- Must have significant leadership experience in developing and executing a strategic vision; a persuasive and sophisticated communicator who can advance the institution's reputation.
