Job Role Details:

Purpose of the Role

Responsible product engineer for the assigned product lines. Assist organization’s product and technology roadmap. Investigate, select, and drive the development of products for the organization. Activities related to schedule, resource, and cross-functional execution. Availability of right product/right time. Represents product internally and representation of customer.

Key Metrics of the Role

  • Adherence to project timeline for the NPD/Lite projects.
  • Ensuring FTR (First time right) on the product design.
  • Innovations in functional as well as cost-optimized design solutions.

Key Deliverables

  • Take lead in the design reviews in the product development process, including the understanding of customer requirements and mapping to CTQ (critical to quality) design features.
  • Work closely with CFT (cross-functional team) to scrutinize design concepts for cost, lead time, quality, standardization, supply assurance, and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.
  • Assist the new product development team with rapid prototyping techniques, testing and validation of proto samples.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive test plans to ensure that product meets customer specifications.
  • Work with the manufacturing department to ensure that the product designs are optimized for manufacturability and assembly.

Experience:

  • Must have worked on Surge arresters in any of the following domains: Product designing/Process engineering/Product testing/Quality assurance.
  • Good knowledge of arrester design principles, metal-oxide varistor testing, housing parameters selection, pollution studies etc. as per IEC 60099-4 Ed. 3.0 standard.
  • Hands-on investigative studies of arrester failure, root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions.
  • Experience in dealing with NABL accredited third-party laboratories both domestic and foreign for witnessing type tests and receiving certification.
  • Have exposure to Surge arrester technical bodies like IEEMA, IEC, IEEE or CIGRE etc.
  • Simulation studies on arrester performance related to lightning/switching on transmission/distribution lines will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of GIS (Gas-insulated sub-station) arresters is desirable.
  • Good drafting skills of responses to technical queries of Surge arresters raised by customers with proper justifications. Able to influence the utility specifications with best-in design and manufacturing practices.
  • Must have worked in industries related to products dealing with energy and power sector.
  • Knowledge and understanding of product design principles (DFSS, APQP, etc.)
  • Demonstrable proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software is needed.
  • Understand FEA simulation software like Ansys, Nastran, and Comsol etc.
  • Good knowledge of engineering materials, applications, and industry standards.
