Role Title: Industrial Engineer

Role Purpose

• Ensure that standards of production and working methodology are maintained and improved to deliver best practices in efficiency and labour utilization.
• Identify opportunities to improve Indian operations in terms of throughput time, service, and productivity to achieve world-class performance.
• Support manufacturing and warehousing operations by creating and implementing clear, well-defined Industrial Engineering (IE) standards that drive continuous improvement.

Principal Accountabilities & Key Activities

Set & Manage Industrial Engineering Standards

• Ensure IE standards of production and working methodology are established as per work measurement studies to provide zero-base standards for every work center.
• Develop and apply IE standards on the manufacturing floor (dyehouse and final winding); identify, document, and communicate gaps with monthly reporting on headcount and allocations.
• Calculate Machine Hours (Mhrs) and Labour Hours (Lhrs) for all articles.
• Determine manning requirements based on log plans for all work centers and align them with zero-base standards.
• Assist in P15 compilation and strategy formulation to identify manning and capital expenditure requirements.
• Prepare monthly OHK reconciliation reports and narrow the gap between zero-base vs. actual.
• Generate GT reconciliation reports to compare system vs. standard consumption; monitor GKG revisions and performance.
• Develop timely and accurate KPI reports for manufacturing monitoring.
• Drive continuous improvement to maximize output across manufacturing areas.
• Support other managers in adopting new methodologies and procedures.
• Train employees on correct working practices to ensure consistent performance excellence.
• Improve practices to reduce material consumption, wastage, and non-conformities.
• Roll out best practice IE and Lean Manufacturing concepts pan-India.
• Ensure effective inter-departmental communication to aid change management and implement manning allocations aligned with standards.
• Optimize machine layout for efficiency, ergonomics, and productivity.
• Establish SOPs for calculating IE standards, ensuring clarity and adoption by department managers.
• Use S&OP data to project machine requirements (OEE), headcount, OHK, and present findings at monthly OCM.

Drive & Manage Continuous Improvement Process

• Lead productivity and efficiency improvements using A3 charters, Lean Six Sigma (LSS) techniques, and DMAIC methodology.
• Drive quick wins, Kaizen projects, and LSS initiatives to achieve year-on-year targets.
• Manage new projects via Power Steering project management—from idea stage to full execution, with monthly monitoring and reporting.
• Ensure integrity of data used in plant-wide incentive schemes.

Activity Description

• Monitor attainment of the annual production plan.
• Identify internal factors affecting production output.
• Review and optimize working methods.
• Analyze production organization for improvements.
• Assess machine working time structure.
• Determine operation times (rate setting).
• Audit compliance of working norms among operators.
• Calculate machine and operator hour variations for future planning.
• Guide operator multi-skilling and training activities in collaboration with Training & Development.

Education, Qualifications, and Experience

Essential

• Graduate in Industrial/Production Engineering or related science-based discipline.
• Minimum 7+ years of experience (with at least 3 years in time and motion study).
• Strong knowledge of:
• Time & Motion Studies, IMT/OMT, Element sheet workings.
• Dyesect reporting.
• SAP PP Module (Reporting).
• Power BI (Project creation & updating).
• Every Angle (Query creation).
• Lean Management techniques.
• Statistical tools & Minitab analysis.
• Different Coats threads, machine types, and running conditions.
• Experience in:
• Conducting risk assessments and JSAs (Job Safety Analysis).
• Value stream mapping.
• Project management.
• Team management (local legislation, worker routines, incentives, workload allocation).
• Factory-wide incentive schemes.
• Knowledge of Coats Health & Safety policies, SOPs, and operational standards.
• Understanding of Lean Six Sigma tools up to Black Belt/Master Black Belt level.

Desirable

• Professional certifications in Lean Six Sigma (BB/MBB).
• Experience in large-scale process improvement and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Strong communication and presentation skills.
