Unity Developer — Multiplayer Strategy (War Games)Join a small, senior-leaning team building high-scale, session-based strategy experiences in Unity. This role owns core gameplay and real-time multiplayer systems that make large, tactical battles feel fast, fair, and endlessly replayable.
Role snapshot- Scope: End-to-end feature ownership across client gameplay, networking, and live-ops integration.
- Focus: Real-time multiplayer strategy (troops, formations, territory control, tech trees, fog of war).
- Impact: Design and implement systems that scale to thousands of concurrent players across regions and devices.
- Multiplayer foundations: Solid, resilient netcode with sensible client authority and server validation. Smooth, low-latency feel through prediction, reconciliation, and interest management.
- Strategy systems: Data-driven unit abilities, counters, and economies that support deep meta and fair competition.
- Performance at scale: Tight frame budgets, consistent play across mid-tier mobile and PC, graceful degradation under load.
- Live service readiness: Feature flags, telemetry, crash reporting, and safe iteration for weekly content.
- A reliable core loop that feels responsive under variable network conditions.
- Clear, documented systems that designers can tune without code changes.
- Measurable wins: reduced CPU/GPU spikes, fewer desyncs, faster matchmaking-to-match start.
- Player trust: competitive integrity, sensible matchmaking, minimal rubber-banding.
- 3+ years professional Unity development with shipped multiplayer features or titles.
- Strong C# systems design; pragmatic use of patterns and profiling.
- Hands-on with one or more networking stacks (Unity Netcode, Mirror, Photon, Fish-Networking) and transport trade-offs.
- Comfort collaborating across design, art, and backend; crisp communication and ownership.
- Dedicated/authoritative server experience; headless builds and orchestration.
- DOTS/ECS/Jobs/Burst for large unit counts or deterministic simulation.
- Security/anti-cheat fundamentals; protecting critical game state.
- Analytics-driven balancing and live-ops experimentation.
- Small teams, fast iteration, frequent playtests.
- Engineering-led quality bar; performance budgets are first-class.
- Data-informed decisions; player empathy over vanity metrics.
- Share a portfolio or short video demonstrating your multiplayer/system work, plus a note on a netcode challenge you solved and how you measured success.
