Overall Job Purpose

Impact & Private Equity is the alternative asset management team within M&G plc that currently manages over £15 billion of assets across Private Equity, Real Assets and Catalyst strategies. The predominantly London based team currently consists of 70 professionals covering Investments, Sustainability, Portfolio Management, and Operational Due Diligence (ODD).

This is an opportunity to be part of the M&G plc's Catalyst investment team that is responsible for deploying £ 5 billion in sustainable private assets (Read more). The functions of the team include originating the opportunities, evaluating the risks and returns through extensive due diligence, structuring the transaction, negotiating with the counterparties, obtaining approval through internal governance processes and executing the approved transactions. The mandate for the team is asset class and geography agnostic. The mandate has the flexibility to deploy capital in any part of the capital stack which means the opportunities could range from a senior secured debt to private equity. In past the team has invested in variety of instruments such as senior financing in real estate and digital infrastructure, supply chain financing, equity investments in aviation to name a few. The typical size of the investment opportunities is between $50 million to $100 million.

As a part of the team, you would be part of the Impact Management team, helping ensure that the fund meets its impact objectives. You would be involved in impact assessment during initial assessment as well as on an ongoing basis.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support investment teams on impact and ESG due diligence as required, ensuring consistent application of relevant frameworks across Real Assets, Private Equity and Catalyst
  • Lead the production of relevant product level reporting such as SFDR disclosures and annual impact reports
  • Lead on key ongoing management steps including annual impact reviews and sustainable investment analysis
  • Act as the main point of contact for sustainability matters on both Real Assets and Private Equity teams, responding to requests from other stakeholders across M&G
  • Maintain all relevant sustainability policies, frameworks and tools used across Real Assets and Private Equity
  • Maintain up to date records of annual impact reviews and sustainable investment analysis across the relevant systems

  • Maintain and develop knowledge of technical requirements of job together with the framework in which M&G plc operates
  • Seek and act on opportunities to develop wider and deeper technical and business understanding
  • Communicate effectively with others, develop positive networks and working relationships
  • Performance Management - follow and contribute to the recognised Performance Management process

  • Compliance - Ensure understanding and adherence to M&G plc's Code of Conduct and, where appropriate, comply with all relevant regulatory policies. This includes completion of any mandatory training requirements


Key Stakeholder Management

Internal

Working with the members of global Catalyst team on variety of transactions

Interacting with external counterparties (such as investee companies, advisors, lawyers etc) as needed

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Educational Qualification

  • 3-5 years with preference for experience in Investment Banking Roles
  • Experience in sustainability, ideally in private markets but otherwise in a broader financial services context
  • Familiarity with key regulatory frameworks such as SFDR, EU Taxonomy, UK SDR would be highly beneficial
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Strong analytical skills and a good level of technical competence to manage and interpret information
  • Ability to work well autonomously and as part of a broader team
  • Ability to analyse and digest a wide range of information, comfortable dealing with ambiguity and imperfect data sets in arriving at decisions


Educational Qualification:
  • CFA Level 2 or 3 qualification OR Post-graduation/ MBA (Finance) or an equivalent degree from a reputed institute
  • Any ESG related qualification
