Role/ Job Summary -

This is a PD engineer position. The incumbent shall execute the Process & product development role with good technical rationale and understanding, acquired from developing an appreciation of the industry practices, and applicable technology developments.

Scope of work includes Raw Material Qualification planning, supplier management, Characterization testing of solar module Raw materials, Qualification/ Reliability testing of Modules to Qualify Raw materials.

1. Essential roles & Responsibilities -

Product development through Phase gate process

• Study the solar market to understand emerging trends, technological advances, and customer requirements (e.g., efficiency, cost, durability).
• Benchmark existing PV products, technologies, and companies in the market to identify opportunities for innovation or differentiation.
• Create a clear roadmap detailing the vision, goals, and timeline for product development.
• Work with stakeholders (marketing, sales, finance, etc.) to define clear and actionable product specifications and features of different BOM material.
• Facilitate sessions to generate ideas and evaluate product concepts that align with the company's objectives.
• Conduct characterization and reliability testing such accelerated aging tests, such as thermal cycling, humidity freeze, and UV exposure etc., to ensure the modules meet performance standards over time.

Supplier Qualification & Coordination

• Work with suppliers to ensure that their production capabilities are compatible with the design of the PV modules, such as size, performance, and durability requirements.
• Engage in co-development with suppliers to explore the use of new technologies or alternative materials that may provide competitive advantages.
• Regular testing and qualification are critical to ensure that the supplier's products continue to meet the defined requirements, preventing defects or failures during the module assembly.
• Conduct supplier visits to assess the supplier's manufacturing processes and ensure they are capable of producing high-quality materials at required scale. This includes reviewing production lines, machinery, and quality control systems.
• Generate detailed reports that highlight strengths, weaknesses, and areas of improvement for the supplier. Create Action plans with clear timelines for addressing any deficiencies.

Projects

• Develop understanding of product reliability and its corresponding components’ contribution (based on product performance characterization and defect understanding)
• Support product qualification process (Provide quality requirements in FMEA, SPC, DOE, Control plan and other processes and procedures as required/suitable)
• Execute in accordance to QMS requirements (ensure timely updates to documents, WI, SOPs)

Communication and Presentation.

• To clearly communicate technical concepts to cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, and management.
• Communicating design changes, testing results, and process performance improvements within teams is essential. This may involve giving clear, actionable feedback.
• Regularly present updates to senior management or other departments. These presentations often involve technical content, so the ability to present complex information in a simple and structured way is essential.

1. Required Qualifications, Competence & Skills

Education, Qualification & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Engineering in a recognized University. Good honors degree preferred.
• 4-9 years related industry experience in Quality Assurance.
• Engineering knowledge in SPC controls or lean and six sigma methods and software tools.
• Engineering knowledge in using quality tools for problem solving
• Aptitude in higher level use of Excel (E.g.: Formulas and Macros) is an added advantage

Technological

• Interest in following up and developing understanding of the technological developments in the industry on both products and components
• Expect to develop as an expert in Quality Management Systems and related standards and requirements (ISO 9001, IEC62941), if not already adept.
• Experience in reliability engineering would be advantageous.

General

• Strong sense of ownership and self-motivation, good initiative, work independently.
• Proactive working attitude – hands on approach
• Ability to handle experimental planning and perform product testing and report writing.
• Excellent presentation, interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, both internally and externally.
