Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Head of Product Design. The Head of Product Design will be responsible for leading the design team and overseeing the end-to-end process of product design, from conceptualization to final implementation. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering, and marketing, to ensure the delivery of well-designed and user-cen


Key Responsibilities

Vehicle Design (Exterior & Interior):

  • Direct the design and engineering of vehicle exteriors and interiors, ensuring aesthetic appeal and functional excellence.


Research & Development (R&D) and New Product Development (NPD):

  • Lead R&D initiatives to innovate and improve product design and development processes.
  • Drive the NPD process, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality products.


Technology Development:

  • Oversee the development and integration of cutting-edge technologies into vehicle design and manufacturing processes.


Platform Architecture & Engineering:

  • Conceptualize and design vehicle platforms, ensuring robust architecture and engineering practices.


Program and Project Management:

  • Manage and oversee all product development projects, ensuring alignment with company goals and timelines.
  • Conduct periodic project health reviews, design and development reviews, time and cost reviews, and quality reviews.


Cost Center Operations and Business Case Preparation:

  • Manage cost centers efficiently, preparing and presenting business cases for new projects.


Vehicle Integration:

  • Lead vehicle integration efforts, ensuring seamless system and part design and engineering.


System & Part Design:

  • Oversee the design to cost, DFM (Design for Manufacturing), DFA (Design for Assembly), and DFS (Design for Serviceability) processes.


Design Review and Validation:

  • Conduct design review mockups (DMR) and ensure robust design validation processes.


Vehicle Performance and Quality Targets:

  • Set and achieve quality targets, ensuring robust vehicle performance contracts.
  • Manage APQP, PPAP, MSA, SPC processes.


Mechanical Design and Development for EV Platform:

  • Lead the mechanical design and development of electric 2W platforms, including all mechanical and electro-mechanical components like battery packs and PTDs.


New Product Design and Development (NPDD):

  • Lead NPDD for various components (Vehicle, Sheet metal, Plastic, Aluminum) following APQP, PMP, and DMAIC processes.


End-to-End Platform Leadership:

  • Lead end-to-end EV and ICEV platform development, including mechanical, EV powertrain, vehicle integration, and validation.


Mechanical Parts Design and Development:

  • Oversee mechanical parts D&D (BIW, Seat, Trims, 2W Chassis) with DFSS, 3F, DFX, CAE, and benchmarking processes.


EV Battery and Motor Development:

  • Lead the development of EV batteries (Li, NMC, LFP) and motors (Hub, Mid drive) with suppliers, ensuring integration and validation with MCU.


Powertrain Integration and Calibration:

  • Manage EV powertrain integration and calibration, ensuring performance metrics such as IDC, gradability, and acceleration meet standards.


Design and Development Compliance:

  • Design and development processes comply with FTR, VAVE, GD&T, FMEA, DVP, and ECE, AIS regulations.


Qualifications

  • Proven experience in leading product design and development, particularly in the automotive industry.
  • Strong background in R&D, NPD, and technology development.
  • ·Expertise in vehicle design (exterior & interior), platform architecture & engineering.
  • Extensive experience in program and project management.
  • Proficiency in cost center operations and business case preparation.
  • Strong understanding of APQP, PPAP, MSA, SPC, DFMEA, CAE, CFD, PLM, DMR, and robust design validation processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in EV platform development, including mechanical and electro-mechanical components.
