Role Description: Data Modeler

The ideal candidate should have hands-on technology experience working with data architects to design databases that meet organizational needs using conceptual, logical, and physical data models. The models are designed to improve efficiency and outputs and may focus on issues such as reducing data redundancy or improving data movement across systems.

The Data Modeler will work closely with Project Managers, Business Analysts, Data Analysts, Data Scientists, and Developers to create optimal models of datasets, and create data maps, and system interrelationship diagrams for data domains and systems.

Role and responsibilities

  • Lead the design and construction of data layers and application systems as a Data Design/Modeling expert.
  • Analyze current database systems in alignment with business operational demands and technical capabilities.
  • Develop comprehensive conceptual, logical, and physical data models, including canonical models, for application databases.
  • Provide expertise in data modeling tools and techniques, ensuring compliance with standards like normalization and denormalization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to craft optimal models of datasets, data maps, and system interrelationship diagrams.
  • Define and analyze data requirements with stakeholders to support business processes.
  • Ensure adherence to technical processes and standards, identifying and mitigating risks throughout the project lifecycle.


Technical skills requirements

The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in,

  • 10 years of experience in IT, specializing in solution architecting for Data warehouse and Data modeling.
  • Professional experience in ER and Dimensional modeling, data analysis, and design of OLTP and OLAP systems.
  • Proficiency in Normalization/Denormalization techniques for optimal performance in relational and dimensional database environments.
  • Strong experience with Star and Snowflake schemas, Dimensional Data Modeling, Fact and Dimensional tables, and Slowly Changing Dimensions (Type1, Type2, and Type3).
  • Exposure to ETL tools like Informatica and BI tools like Tableau.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as ERWin, Power Designer, ER Studio, and Oracle Data Modeler.
  • Experience with databases including NoSQL (MongoDB), Snowflake, SQL Server, and Postgres.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as SQL, PL/SQL, Python, R, and Bash.
