Job Summary:
As a Payments Risk Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in developing, managing, and overseeing internal controls in our payment operations. Ideal candidate will have a strong risk and operations background with an analytical mindset to manage risk with hands on payments operations skills . This position requires close collaboration with multiple stakeholders, within the Payments function including Product and Engineering, Information Security, Risk & Compliance, Legal teams, and support operations, to effectively manage risks inherent in the payments ecosystem. This role also requires effective third-party management in the payment space to ensure fulfilling contractual obligations with third parties and identifying and managing other operational risks that may arise from the third-party processes. You will be responsible for assessing risks, suggesting controls, analyzing data, and providing insights to enhance the security, compliance, and efficiency of our payment ecosystem. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, leveraging their expertise to drive impactful outcomes and contribute to the success of our payments initiatives.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Identify and assess operational risks associated with payment services. Develop strategies and controls to mitigate these risks effectively.
- Develop payment operational practices to not only meet the compliance requirements but proactively manage and avoid risk for day-to-day operations.
- Work with Product and Engineering, Security, Risk & Compliance, and Legal teams to understand the business objectives, operational processes, and regulatory landscape.
- Develop and implement risk control strategy in line with specific risks identified in Chargebee Payment business and processes.
- Obtain thorough understanding of contract terms with third-party payment processors, including liabilities, regulatory/legal compliance obligations, and financial arrangement, including revenue/loss sharing, chargeback, fees, fraud events, etc.
- Establish and maintain a process for continuous monitoring of submerchants, ensuring their activities are compliant with regulations and Adyen contract commitments.
- Implement a structured risk assessment and mitigation strategy to address potential risks associated with submerchant activities, including digital record-keeping and timestamping.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements in the payments industry, implementing necessary compliance controls and scalable privacy policies.
- Develop and implement payment fraud prevention, detection, and management programs to minimize potential losses due to ineffective operational oversight and controls.
- Perform data analytics and share insights, using automated tools for real-time monitoring to identify suspicious activities proactively.
- Develop a formalized incident management process to swiftly address and resolve cases of non-compliance or fraudulent activities among submerchants.
- Foster collaboration between the risk officer, Payments department, Legal, and Data analysts to ensure a cohesive approach to submerchant risk management.
- Provide training and support to submerchants on compliance requirements and risk management best practices.
- Prepare comprehensive risk reports and presentations, outlining key findings, trends, and recommendations for risk mitigation.
- Maintain thorough documentation of risk management processes and compliance controls under the guidance from Risk and Compliance.
- Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement and optimization within the payments ecosystem.
- Lead initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency, reliability, and security of payment operations while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Create regular, comprehensive reports on submerchant activities and risk status, improving transparency and informing management and partners about risk management efforts.
Must Have:
- A minimum of 8 years of experience, with at least 5 years of relevant experience in the Payments space.
- Strong understanding of payment systems including card networks, ACH and real-time payments, gateway, and related third parties.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance frameworks relevant to the payments industry (e.g., PCI DSS, PSD2, etc.).
- Proficiency in data analysis tools. Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau).
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams.
- Strong analytical mindset with a demonstrated ability to translate data into actionable insights.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and precision in risk assessment and compliance activities.
- Proven track record of driving results and delivering high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
