We are seeking a skilled and experienced News Desk Chief Sub-Editor to join our team. The News Desk Chief Sub-Editor will play a crucial role in managing the news desk and ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of news content.

Location - Bandra East (Mumbai)

Position - Entry Level & Mid-Senior

Key Responsibilities

• Ideating, pitching, planning, reporting, writing, copy-editing and publishing online news copy – compliant with SEO best practices

• Checking print content and revising headlines and keywords

• Assisting news lead with making rotas as well as daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly news plans

• Monitoring news and social media trends and reporting and writing timely, news copy

• Scanning for breaking news and updating on homepage/section pages. Ensuring no important story is missed by the online team

• Coordinating with photographers/camerapersons/reporters for breaking stories/photos/ video

• Maintaining a daily story count; meeting fortnightly, monthly, quarterly and annual targets

• Handling homepage/section programming

• Multimedia: Reporting and/or anchoring video stories, conceiving and hosting podcasts

• Coordinating with the feature, video and social media (and other teams) teams, as required.

Job Specific Knowledge & Skills

a) Functional: Should understand the digital media space. The candidate should possess excellent news judgement and writing, headlining and sub-editing skills. Must be aware of news trends

b) Behavioural: Team player with excellent communication skills, multitasking skills, ability to handle pressures of work and deadline, and ability and willingness to take ownership of their deliverables.

Attributes, Qualification and Experience:

• Should take ownership of work and individual as well as team deliverables

• Should have worked for mainstream print and/or digital news publications in Mumbai

• Should have excellent reporting, writing and sub-editing skills in English

• Should have excellent news judgement and a very good knowledge of news and current affairs. Knowledge and understanding of regional and national politics and policy a must

• Ability to report and write news copy compliant with SEO, social media and other best practices

• Ability to create content within tight deadlines, yet meet accuracy and quality-control standards

• Ability to do multimedia reporting, including anchoring video and hosting podcasts in English

• Ability to collaborate with other teams on multiple stories simultaneously

• Should be willing to work long hours, including early mornings and late nights, including on weekends, with rotating shifts and weekly offs.
