Job Description: Data Center Support Specialist
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Data Center Support Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining the smooth operation of our data center infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, and providing support for all hardware, software, and network-related issues. You will work closely with IT teams and other departments to ensure the reliability and efficiency of our systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. System Maintenance and Monitoring:
- Monitor servers, network equipment, and data center systems for performance and uptime.
- Perform regular hardware and software maintenance, including firmware updates and patches.
2. Troubleshooting and Repairs:
- Identify and resolve technical issues related to servers, storage, and network devices.
- Replace faulty hardware components and ensure proper functioning.
3. Installation and Configuration:
- Install and configure servers, storage systems, and network equipment.
- Ensure proper cable management and rack installations.
4. Backup and Recovery:
- Manage and monitor backup processes to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Perform data recovery operations when necessary.
5. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, incidents, and equipment inventory.
- Generate reports on data center performance and suggest improvements.
6. Compliance and Security:
- Adhere to data center policies and ensure physical and data security measures are in place.
- Assist in audits and compliance checks as required.
7. Collaboration and Support:
- Work with cross-functional teams to address operational challenges.
- Provide on-call support during off-hours and respond to emergencies promptly.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: 2+ years of experience in data center operations, IT support, or a related role.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in hardware diagnostics and repair.
- Experience with server operating systems (e.g., Linux, Windows Server).
- Knowledge of networking principles (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, routing).
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Certifications (preferred):
- CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent certifications.
- Data center certifications like DCIM or equivalent.
Key Competencies:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Attention to detail and a proactive attitude.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage time effectively.
Work Environment:
- Physical demands include lifting heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs) and working in high-temperature environments.
- This role may involve occasional travel and 24/7 on-call duties.
