About the job:

As a Senior Email Product Designer/Developer within our Guest UX Team, you’ll be at the forefront of Target’s evolving digital experience, shaping it for our guests and contributing to business growth. You will designing and developing responsive emails (UI, front-end and back-end code) alongside a global team of Email Designers/Developers. The designer/developer will produce, proof, test, and troubleshoot dynamic HTML emails that follow both brand and current code standards..


You’ll demonstrate clean, high-quality email code that supports templated designs with brand standards and leverages current email best practices across major inboxes/email clients and use tried and true design methodologies such as human centered design thinking to understand guest needs, balance business ideas, deliver best-in-class design from concept to execution, while championing cross-functional experimentation.


As a member of the team, you will contribute to advancing the broader practice of UX at Target through influence, impact, and craft, while also educating cross-functional teams when needed. Responsibilities:

  • Create world-class, responsive email code for the operational side of Target. com (orders, account, reviews, loyalty, registry, and much more)
  • Explore how we make these important communications more personalized, human-centered, and actionable by using design and coding techniques that drive results
  • Generate new concepts and hypotheses, facilitate A/B testing ideas, and pivot quickly to new directions based on feedback & learning
  • Follow-through on delivery: own final email code by working primarily in Salesforce Marketing Cloud
  • Create fluid, responsive, precise, front-end HTML designs and connect back-end services and logic using AMPscript and data extensions
  • Execute complete end-to-end testing of each email using Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Litmus testing tools
  • Participate in the UX process, from early discovery and strategic approach to ideation, design, testing, asset delivery and production.
  • Leverage insights, data and research to identify and pursue user-centric outcomes within the Operational Communication space
  • Create design deliverables representative of the design process phase – such as journey maps, wireframes, user flows, UI design and prototypes
  • Collaborate cheerfully with others, including other designers, developers, product managers, content designers, and accessibility team members
  • Build a network of relationships to enable your vision in service of our guest experience and Target as a whole
  • Proficiency in UX and product design and prototyping tools (i.e., in Figma)
  • Navigate complexity and ambiguity delivering impact for guests and the business



About you:

  • 5+ years of experience with HTML/CSS front-end coding specifically for email (fluid responsive design layouts, device breakpoints and workarounds for limitations of email clients/browsers) with an eagerness to learn and expand your skills in the email space
  • Minimum of 4 years of coding and email development for Marketing Automation platforms, preferably Salesforce Marketing Cloud but open to other ESPs
  • Expertise using Adobe Creative Suite, Figma or equivalent to manipulate and export email design files
  • Experience working within corporate brand standards
  • Experience with Litmus, Email on Acid or equivalent testing tools
  • Willingness and ability to adopt new technologies, languages and/or frameworks to keep up with new trends and best practices
  • Knowledgeable about design thinking, the design process, and eager to expand your email development and design skillset in the future
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, action-oriented environment
  • Able to translate technical explanations to non-technical parties
  • A passion for the email space and the specific intricacies of designing and developing emails
  • Experience with AMPscript is a plus
