ACS-I India is looking for a Curation Expert who will be responsible for extracting, analyzing, and curating complex biological information from various life science domains such as medicinal chemistry, biology, genomics, proteomics, and clinical trials, from scientific literature and patents. You will collaborate with other biocurators to ensure comprehensive coverage and data quality. Your expertise will contribute to the development and maintenance of extensive biological databases used for research and development purposes across the life sciences industry.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Data Curation and Extraction: Systematically search and identify relevant information (such as ligands, targets, measurements etc.) from scientific literature, patents, and biological databases. Extract and curate data related to various life science domains including medicinal chemistry, genomics, proteomics, and clinical trials etc.
  • Data Annotation and Analysis: Annotate curated data with relevant biological context, such as gene function, protein interactions, pathways, and disease associations. Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and relationships within and across different datasets.
  • Data Quality Control: Implement rigorous quality control measures to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of curated data. Verify data integrity and resolve discrepancies through careful review and cross-referencing.
  • Database Management: Contribute to the development and maintenance of comprehensive biological databases. This includes data entry, updating records, and ensuring data integrity within the database system.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to the optimization of data curation workflows and processes. Identify opportunities for improvement and suggest solutions to enhance efficiency and data quality.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with other biocurators, scientists, bioinformaticians, and stakeholders to understand data needs and research objectives. Communicate complex biological information clearly and concisely.
  • Staying Updated: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in biocuration tools, databases, methodologies, and relevant life science domains. Continuously update knowledge and skills to maintain expertise in the field.


Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Familiarity with bioactivity databases such as PubMed, Medline, ChEMBL, BindingDB, PubChem etc.
  • Cognizant in the areas of bioactivity, biomarker identification, biological pathway analysis etc.
  • The candidate is expected to demonstrate proficiency in understanding chemical structures, manipulating molfiles, and utilizing associated terminologies.
  • The candidate is detail-oriented, understands scientific data, extracts key information, and summarizes effectively.
  • Familiarity with various ontologies such as gene ontology, protein ontology etc.
  • Proficient in drafting SOPs, executing work instructions, performing data analysis, and generating comprehensive reports.


Job Requirements:

  • Educational background: M. Pharm or MS (Medicinal Chemistry / Pharmacology/ Pharmacoinformatics)
  • 0-2 years’ experience in biocuration or relevant experience.
  • Sound knowledge of bioactivity, chemical structures, harmonization techniques for scientific data etc.
  • Must be detail oriented, well organized with ability to analyze, and communicate data effectively
  • Proactively sharing knowledge and promote a culture of excellence
  • Self-motivated, proactive and excellent in communication skills
