ASL Interpreter

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Senior ASL Interpreter with 15+ years of professional expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation. The ideal candidate will facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals and hearing individuals in various settings, ensuring a smooth and clear understanding. This role requires advanced interpreting skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to navigate complex conversations in professional environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide fluent ASL interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language in various settings such as meetings, conferences, educational sessions, and other duties as assigned.
• Collaborate with clients and internal teams to ensure effective communication and accommodation of deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals.
• Interpret both live and pre-recorded audio/video material accurately and efficiently.
• Adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct and maintain confidentiality.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in ASL interpretation.
• Offer mentoring or training to junior interpreters within the organization as needed.
• Adapt to different communication styles, including visual aids and written materials when necessary.
• Maintain professionalism and cultural sensitivity in diverse environments, especially during high-stakes or emotionally sensitive situations.
• Assist in the development and review of organizational policies related to deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.

Qualifications:

• 15+ years of professional experience as an ASL interpreter in various settings (educational, medical, legal, corporate, etc.).
• Certified Interpreter with relevant credentials (e.g., RID, NIC).
• Mastery of ASL and deep understanding of deaf culture and the needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
• Proficiency in interpreting for technical subjects, complex professional discussions, and specialized jargon.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients, colleagues, and diverse audiences.
• Experience in working with a wide range of assistive technologies and tools for interpretation.
• Ability to handle high-pressure situations with composure and clarity.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
