Job Summary:

Chargebee’s Revenue Growth Management platform powers some of the fastest-growing brands around the world today, including Calendly, Pret-a-Manger, Freshworks, Study.com, and others. Our Revenue Growth Management suite includes billing, subscription management revenue recognition, retention and expansion offers and receivables management products. Our 1000+ team members work in a hybrid office/remote model throughout the world, with offices in India (Chennai and Bangalore), the Netherlands (Amsterdam), Ireland (Dublin), Australia (Sydney), and the USA (San Francisco, Salt Lake City and Washington, DC). Chargebee has raised over $480 million in capital and is funded by Accel, Sequoia, Tiger Global, Insight Partners, Steadview Capital, and Sapphire Ventures.

About The Team:

Chargebee’s Platform Product & Engineering teams are responsible for ensuring our technical platform and infrastructure meets the expectations of businesses who rely on Chargebee to run their most important revenue operations. These businesses depend on our technical platform to be robust, extensible, performant, reliable, stable, secure and scalable in order to process billions of dollars (and Euros, and other currencies) worth of transactions with enterprise-class service levels. Our Platform Product Managers make sure we consistently meet and exceed what merchants expect of our technical platform, working closely with engineering and technical and non-technical operations teams to do so.

As a member of the platform product team, you will be a key leader driving our ongoing strategic focus on modernizing our platform — a series of initiatives in which we are investing significant resources. We’re building a microservice architecture that powers a series of loosely-coupled capabilities used across Chargebee’s product lines. Our modernized platform will support throughputs an order of magnitude higher than our legacy platform, with lower latency and higher service levels and will be built to enable rapid development cycles with built-in trust and integrity controls. The modernized platform runs on a standardized and abstract cloud fabric. In addition to runtime transactional components, the modernized platform will also include enterprise data management (including data science and machine learning applications), observability and analytical, and developer productivity components.

Role Highlights:

  • Partner with engineering leaders and work with program management counterparts to drive a product portfolio focused on one or multiple aspects of Chargebee’s technical platform.
  • You’ll focus on one or more of the following domains: APIs (endpoints & contracts, workflows, orchestration, frameworks and infrastructure); core platform services (including IAM, queue and job management, auditing, search, notifications, etc.) and service frameworks; transactional data management, enterprise data, DS/ML, and analytical systems; cloud fabric (containers, compute, storage, etc.); path-to-production (build, quality, release gates, automated testing and validation, deployment); observability, telemetry, proactive platform health management and high level product management of incident processes; and platform initiatives (security, privacy/data protection; technical standards and governance and SLAs/SLOs).
  • Build a vision and strategy for your product domain, including customer-facing (internal and external) and technical aspects, determining scope and prioritizing solutions as appropriate while balancing technical depth, business considerations and speed-to-release considerations.
  • Set and manage objectives and key results for your product domain in a cross-functional way so that product management, program management, engineering, and technical and non-technical operations teams are all aligned with one set of OKRs (and KPIs).
  • Lead by example, creating buy-in to a shared vision in a collaborative and consensus driven way; mentor and coach other staff; and be a subject matter expert within your domain.
  • Manage the overall product lifecycle for your product domain, working with cross-functional partners across the company (in both technical and non-technical roles) to solve actual problems faced by Chargebee, our developers, merchants and our merchant’s end users.
  • Communicate your product vision, strategy and roadmap in a way that focuses on the value created and benefits for your customers and stakeholders.
  • Technical product discovery, including the ability to discover, analyze and understand customer needs (both internal and external), the technical context, and potential solution boundaries.
  • Create detailed product requirements (within Agile Kanban and Scrum processes) based on a deep knowledge of your product and technical domain, customer needs ( internal and external); manage your product roadmap; and prioritize with specific features and across your domain.
  • Working with an analytics partner, understand the relevant input and output metrics (technical and business). Define and measure what success looks like through the product life cycle.
  • Working with a program management partner, continuously improve operational rigor and excellence and manage staged, incremental roll-out plans for the products in your domain.
  • Define SLAs and SLOs for the Chargebee platform, as appropriate.
  • You will operate autonomously within a matrix environment and will proactively identify and resolve potential problems/blockers and will builtrust through d strong relationships and mobilize people across the company.
  • While this is initially an individual contributor role, you should be able to move or grow into a manager-of-PMs role as the company grows and as the impact of your product domain(s) scales.

Qualifications:

  • Domain appropriate knowledge: e.g., APIs (REST, GraphQL, etc.); streaming , OLTP and OLAP data systems; service frameworks; CI/CD, etc. (Note that a candidate’s domain skills will be matched to a specific product domain; we don’t expect every candidate to know everything going in, but you should be a fast learner.)
  • Systems design and system-oriented thinking: ability to articulate a technical vision in diagram and narrative forms and the ability to see all the parts and how they fit together, both at the detail level and from high altitude. You should be able to understand how each part of a system works with the appropriate level of detail.
  • Background in platform product management (or technical program management) and 8+ years of practical experience
  • Strong written and oral communications skills; ability to listen and understand what drives people
  • Experience working and building relationships in a remote, distributed, global (i.e., across time-zones) company in a rapidly changing business environment
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and in gray spaces.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills; experience utilizing these skills effectively, even without the full picture or complete context
  • Experience with ecommerce, SaaS or related software applications running on the internet, particularly with complex and distributed systems and experience with cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes, etc.)
  • Experience leading teams with cross-functional membership with members outside your reporting line (i.e., influencing and leading in a matrix organization)
  • Past experience as a software developer or software development engineer in test (SDET) or equivalent technical experience
  • Higher education in a technical field (CS, EE, Information Systems) or equivalent experience
