Position Overview:

The Manager - Human Resources will oversee a wide range of HR functions within the university, focusing on employee relations, higher education legal framework with UGC / other applicable guidelines, HR operations, recruitment, policy administration, performance management, compensation & benefits, and organizational development. The ideal candidate will play a key role in fostering a positive work environment, ensuring compliance with legal regulations, and contributing to the university's strategic goals through effective HR management.


Key Responsibilities:

Employee Relations and Engagement:

  • Act as a point of contact for employees regarding HR policies, procedures, and benefits.
  • Mediate and resolve conflicts between employees and departments in a fair and professional manner.
  • Implement employee engagement programs and initiatives to foster a positive work culture.
  • Provide advice and support in areas such as disciplinary actions, grievances, and performance issues.

Performance Management:

  • Oversee the performance appraisal process, ensuring alignment with institutional goals.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to managers and supervisors on effective performance management.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of professional development programs.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Administer and evaluate compensation programs and benefits packages to ensure competitiveness and compliance.
  • Ensure that all HR-related systems are up-to-date and aligned with current industry standards.
  • Manage benefits enrolment and address any employee inquiries regarding benefits.

Compliance and Policy Administration:

  • Stay updated on local, state, and federal labor laws to ensure university policies comply with relevant regulations.
  • Familiar / having worked with applicable legal frameworks like UGC / AICTE among others
  • Maintain and update employee records in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Advise management on best practices for handling employee leave, family medical leave (FMLA), and other related matters.

HR Metrics and Reporting:

  • Maintain HR-related databases and generate reports on staffing, employee turnover, and other key performance indicators.
  • Analyze HR metrics to identify trends and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Prepare HR dashboards for management reporting

Strategic HR Planning:

  • Collaborate with the university’s senior leadership to align HR practices with the institution’s goals and mission.
  • Provide input into workforce planning, succession planning, and talent management strategies.

Training and Development:

  • Coordinate training sessions for employees to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Partner with leadership to design and implement leadership development programs.
  • Assess training needs and provide recommendations for improvement.

Recruitment and Staffing:

  • Lead the recruitment process for leadership, faculty, staff, and administrative positions.
  • Work with hiring managers to define job requirements, create job descriptions, and post vacancies.
  • Manage applicant tracking systems and maintain candidate pipelines.
  • Coordinate interviews, conduct reference checks, and assist in the selection process.


Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • Implementation and hands on experience on working on HR software would be preferred.
  • HR certifications such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or PHR/SPHR are a plus.


Experience:

  • 12+ years of experience in human resources management, preferably within a higher educational institution or a similar environment.
  • Proven experience in recruitment, employee relations, policy administration, performance management, and compliances.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of HR principles, labor laws, and best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in HR software (e.g., HRIS, Applicant Tracking Systems, Payroll Systems).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time, with occasional evening or weekend hours required for recruitment events or special projects.
  • Occasional travel between campus locations.
