About Job


We’re looking for a Founding Lead Engineer with strong vanilla JavaScript skills and solid server-side development experience with Node.js. The ideal candidate is creative, tenacious, and thrives in large, legacy codebases, making thoughtful architectural decisions, while collaborating with designers and other creatives to design and refine features.


As well as JavaScript, the current codebase makes use of the Phoenix framework for Elixir but this may change over time. Phoenix experience is not required if the candidate has experience with server-side development in a language like Node.js, Python, Ruby or similar and the desire to dig into new technologies.

Responsibilities


  • Develop and maintain large web applications with strong JavaScript expertise.
  • Work across client-side and server-side code.
  • Refactor and modernize large legacy codebases, improving maintainability and scalability.
  • Collaborate with designers and creatives to refine UI/UX and feature implementations.
  • Evaluate and integrate new technologies and architectures with a pragmatic, problem-solving mindset.
  • Comfortable jumping into unfamiliar technologies and quickly getting up to speed.
Requirements


  • A minimum of 6 years of full-stack development experience, including at least 3 years in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Expertise in Javascript and server-side code. Highly proficient with Node.js.
  • Proven track record of working with ArcGIS JavaScript API or similar geospatial technologies.
  • Strong understanding of software development life cycles, tools, and best practices.
  • Experience in leading engineering teams and providing technical guidance.
  • Ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think algorithmically.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proven experience collaborating with C-suite executives.
