Role Overview:

As the Front-End Developer (Team Leader) at Mastroke, you will be responsible for leading a talented team of front-end developers and working closely with designers, project managers, and backend developers to create exceptional, high-performance eCommerce websites. You will play a key role in ensuring that our Shopify-based stores provide seamless, engaging, and visually compelling experiences. This role requires a deep understanding of modern front-end development practices and a strong working knowledge of the Shopify ecosystem.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Mentorship:
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of front-end developers to deliver high-quality web experiences on time. Provide technical guidance, ensure best practices, and promote a collaborative work environment.
  • Shopify Expertise:
  • Take ownership of Shopify front-end development, including customizing themes, developing liquid templates, and integrating third-party applications. Stay updated with the latest Shopify features and best practices.
  • Front-End Development:
  • Lead the development of responsive, cross-browser compatible, and high-performance websites using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), and modern frameworks (React, Vue, etc.). Focus on clean, maintainable, and scalable code.
  • Collaboration with Design & UX Teams:
  • Work closely with UX/UI designers to translate design concepts into functional, user-friendly interfaces while ensuring the best possible user experience.
  • Code Review & Quality Assurance:
  • Conduct code reviews, maintain high coding standards, and oversee the development of reusable front-end components and libraries. Ensure that performance, accessibility, and security standards are adhered to.
  • Performance Optimization:
  • Optimize website performance through efficient front-end coding, minimizing load times, and utilizing best practices for responsive design, SEO, and mobile-first development.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with back-end developers to integrate front-end elements with server-side logic and API services, particularly within the Shopify environment.
  • Project Management:
  • Ensure timely delivery of projects by managing timelines, setting priorities, and reporting progress to stakeholders. Work alongside project managers to ensure efficient allocation of resources.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Leadership Experience:
  • Proven experience as a team lead or senior front-end developer with a track record of leading development teams to deliver high-quality projects.
  • Strong Shopify Ecosystem Knowledge:
  • Extensive experience working within the Shopify ecosystem, including theme development, Liquid templating, and integrating third-party Shopify apps. Knowledge of Shopify Plus is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Front-End Technologies:
  • Expert-level proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), and popular front-end frameworks (React, Vue, or Angular). Strong understanding of JavaScript libraries such as jQuery, and experience with front-end build tools (Webpack, NPM, Babel).
  • Responsive Design & Cross-Browser Compatibility:
  • Strong understanding of responsive web design principles and cross-browser compatibility. Familiar with CSS frameworks (Bootstrap, Tailwind, etc.) and pre-processors like SASS or LESS.
  • Version Control (Git):
  • Proficient in version control systems, especially Git. Experience with GitFlow and managing version control in collaborative projects.
  • Performance & SEO Best Practices:
  • Knowledge of front-end performance optimization techniques and SEO best practices to ensure fast-loading and SEO-friendly websites.
  • UX/UI Design Sensibility:
  • Strong understanding of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) principles, with the ability to collaborate effectively with design teams to implement designs that are both visually appealing and functional.
  • API Integration:
  • Experience integrating front-end code with APIs, including RESTful APIs and JSON, to pull and display dynamic data in eCommerce websites.
  • Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills:
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to debug and troubleshoot complex issues across multiple environments.
  • Communication & Collaboration:
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, clients, and other stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in agile/scrum environments.
  • Familiarity with web analytics tools (Google Analytics, Hotjar, etc.) to track and improve front-end performance.
  • Experience with eCommerce-focused development beyond Shopify (WooCommerce, Bigcommerce, Hubspot, etc.).
  • Understanding of security best practices in front-end development.
