Staff Compliance Engineer

About the Job:

Borneo is in search of a skilled and passionate Compliance Engineer who will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop innovative products that align with our commitment to protecting privacy and maintaining compliance in the use of ML and Generative AI. As a Staff Compliance Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and maintaining our security platform, policies, and procedures. You will play a critical role in providing feedback to enhance effectiveness and usability of Borneo’s platform for its customers.


Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with product, engineering and ML teams to integrate security and compliance considerations into product design and development.
  • Design robust security frameworks and controls tailored to protect data used in training and querying LLMs. This includes creating architectures that prevent unauthorized data access and ensure data integrity.
  • ​​Collaborate with automation teams to conduct rigorous testing and validation of security features and controls to ensure they effectively mitigate identified risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Actively use Borneo’s platform to manage and automate our compliance processes, serving as an internal case study for our product's effectiveness.
  • Provide structured feedback to our product and engineering teams based on your experience with our platform, helping identify areas for enhancement and new feature development.
  • Collaborate with the product team to understand the roadmap and feature set, ensuring the product aligns with evolving compliance and privacy needs of customers.
  • Use insights gained from internal use of the product and interaction with compliance regulations to assist in crafting guidelines, best practices, and support materials for customers.


Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field with 6+ years of experience in security and compliance engineering roles.
  • 3+ years of experience with cloud security, ideally in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud environments.
  • Deep understanding of global and local privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA), compliance regulations, and industry standards.
  • Strong analytical skills to understand complex regulatory requirements and turn them into actionable solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey compliance requirements to non-compliance and non-technical teams.
  • Proactive, independent worker capable of taking initiative in a fast-paced startup environment.


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in one of the programming languages: Golang, Typescript, or Python.
  • Professional security certifications (CISSP, CISM, etc.) are highly desirable.
  • Good understanding of data discovery, classification, and control mechanisms used in privacy and compliance automation.
