Job Description: Feed Engineer

We are seeking a Feed Engineer to join our Modular Construction firm, responsible for leading the engineering team in the front-end engineering design (FEED) phase, as well as managing tendering and costing for project bids. This role is critical in ensuring the successful execution of projects from conception through to completion.

Roles & Responsibilities

Preconstruction Phase

• Project Scope Development: Define and document project requirements, objectives, and scope, ensuring alignment with client expectations.
• Cost Estimation: Conduct detailed cost estimations based on preliminary designs and project specifications, ensuring accuracy within a range of +/- 1.5-2.0%.
• Technical Proposal Preparation: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive technical proposals that meet client specifications and industry standards.
• Tender Documentation: Prepare and review tender documents, including specifications, drawings, and contractual terms, ensuring clarity and compliance with legal requirements.
• Market Analysis: Stay updated on market trends and competitor activities to inform pricing strategies and enhance proposal competitiveness.
• Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks during the FEED phase and develop mitigation strategies to minimise impact on project timelines and budgets.

Construction Phase

• Collaboration with EPC Teams: Work closely with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) teams to ensure a seamless transition from FEED to detailed design and execution phases.
• Quality Assurance: Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards, addressing any discrepancies promptly.
• Change Management: Implement effective change management processes to minimize disruptions during construction, ensuring all changes are documented and communicated effectively.

Post-Construction Phase

• Project Handover: Facilitate the handover process by providing detailed documentation of engineering designs, cost reports, and project outcomes to stakeholders.
• Performance Evaluation: Analyze project performance against initial estimates and objectives, identifying lessons learned for future projects.
• Client Liaison: Maintain ongoing communication with clients post-construction to address any concerns or modifications needed after project completion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or related field).
• Proven experience in FEED processes within the construction or modular building industry.
• Strong analytical skills with a focus on cost estimation and risk management.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills to effectively liaise with clients and stakeholders.
• Proficiency in using relevant engineering software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Skills

• Expertise in tendering processes and cost estimation methodologies.
• Strong understanding of engineering principles related to modular construction.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

Evaluation Criteria for Feed Engineer Role

To ensure a comprehensive assessment of candidates for the Feed Engineer position, we have established the following evaluation criteria. Each criterion is weighted according to its importance, contributing to a total score of 100%.

1. Technical Expertise (30%)

• Knowledge of FEED Processes: Understanding of front-end engineering design principles and methodologies.
• Cost Estimation Skills: Ability to conduct accurate cost estimations and understand financial implications.
• Industry Standards Compliance: Familiarity with industry regulations, safety standards, and best practices in modular construction.

2. Project Management Skills (25%)

• Planning and Organization: Ability to develop and manage project timelines, scopes, and deliverables effectively.
• Risk Management: Proficiency in identifying potential risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
• Change Management: Experience in managing changes during construction while minimizing disruptions.

3. Communication and Collaboration (20%)

• Client Interaction: Ability to communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and provide updates.
• Team Collaboration: Experience working within multidisciplinary teams, fostering a collaborative environment.
• Negotiation Skills: Competence in negotiating terms with clients and subcontractors.

4. Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills (15%)

• Critical Thinking: Ability to analyze complex problems and develop innovative solutions.
• Performance Evaluation: Skill in assessing project performance against objectives and identifying areas for improvement.

5. Relevant Experience (10%)

• Industry Experience: Number of years worked in modular construction or related fields.
