Role Description
1. Prescribe radionuclides and dosages to be administered to individual patients.
2. Check and approve the quality of diagnostic images before patients are discharged.
3. Prepare comprehensive interpretive reports of findings.
4. Interpret imaging data and confer with other medical specialists to formulate diagnosis.
5. Determine appropriate tests or protocols based on patient's needs or conditions.
6.Compare procedures with other types of procedure such as computed tomography, ultrasonography, nuclear magnetic resonance imaging, and angiography.
7.Consult with patients following radiation treatments to provide information and assess outcomes or to recommend further consultation or treatments as appropriate.
8. Review procedure requests and patient's medical histories to determine applicability of procedure and radioisotopes to be used.
9. Direct technologists or technicians regarding desired dosages, techniques, positions, and projections.
10. Establish and enforce radiation protection standards for patients and staff.
11. Advise other physician of the clinical indications, limitations, assessments, or risk of diagnostic and therapeutic applications of radioactive materials.
12. Calculate ,measure, or prepare radioisotope dosages.
13. Administer radioisotopes to clinical patients or research subjects.
14. Direct the safe management and disposal of radioactive substances.
15.Interivew and physically examine patients prior to testing.
16. Monitor handling of radioactive materials to ensure that established procedures are followed.
17.Monitor quality control of radionuclide preparation, administration, or disposition ensuring that activities are conducted.
18. Monitor cleanup of radioactive spills to ensure that proper procedures are followed and that decontamination activities are conducted.
19. Perform cardiovascular procedures such as exercise testing and pharmacologic stress testing.
20. Test dosage evaluation instruments and survey meters to ensure they are operating properly.
21.Teach diagnostic radiology, or other specialties at graduate educational level.
22.Forumulate plans and procedures for departments.
23. Provide advice on the selection of supplies or equipment.
24. Schedule examinations and staff activities.
25. Consult with anesthesiologists regarding recommended dosages or combinations of sedative drugs.
26. Conduct laboratory procedures, such as radioimmunoassay studies of blood or urine, using radionuclides.
Qualifications
- DRM/DNB/MD in Nuclear Medicine
- Experience in Medicine and Nuclear procedures
- Knowledge of Radiation Safety protocols
- Excellent diagnostic and decision-making skills
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Board certification in Nuclear Medicine or Radiology
- Experience with advanced imaging technologies is a plus
- Medical degree from an accredited institution
