Purpose of the Job
The Content Strategist is responsible for the development, management and execution of a customer-focused content publishing strategy for the assigned list in Health Sciences, in line with Elsevier India’s strategy to become a full service health information provider.
The role is accountable for defining the content development plan including text and multimedia components, acquiring and managing products; negotiating with authors and other parties; directing product development; scheduling; adhering to product and departmental budgets.
The Content Strategist operates as an individual contributor within the diverse, exciting and diligent Publishing team, working in close partnership with academicians and key stakeholders at various academic institutions, students as well as internal colleagues including Publishers, Project Managers and Project Coordinators from the Editorial and Publishing Operations team, Sales and Marketing teams as well as production teams in Gurgaon/ Chennai.
Key Result Areas
Main Activities and Responsibilities
§ Develop education solutions and programs including print, electronic and multimedia products that are aligned with overall Elsevier India strategy and serves the unmet needs of market.
§ Develop local, reusable and exportable content that is an integral part of our end-users work and study lives.
§ Drive growth in the local HS publishing revenues via expansion of the local publishing program in the designated area and increased focus on e-learning.
§ Continuously look for opportunities to expand and optimize the education solutions portfolio in line with evolving market needs
§ Provide updates to content strategy as required
§ Publish new editions with regular revision cycles.
§ Achieve annual objectives in respect to number of titles signed and frontlist targets.
§ Develop new project ideas and revision cycles for existing projects, under the guidance of the Senior Content Strategists and Director Content and Product Strategy.
§ Undertake market research to ascertain market acceptability of projects prior to preparation and presentation of a publishing proposal.
§ Ensure all proposal criteria are addressed and the presented projects are commercially viable through appropriate research and preparation.
§ Present publishing proposals to all stakeholders for necessary discussion and approval.
§ Undertake contractual negotiations with author prospects and issue final contracts after appropriate approvals from senior management.
§ Report to Publishing Committee/ other stakeholders regarding manuscript progress and changes to schedules.
§ Liaise with Content Strategists in other Elsevier offices regarding adaptations to ensure open channels of communication are maintained.
§ Ensure that the terms of adaptation agreements are fulfilled.
§ Ensure that proposed publishing/ adaptation specifications meet market needs and publishing requirements.
§ Work with Project Managers to ensure effective handover of manuscripts to Chennai.
Customer and Market Knowledge

§ Establish a network of contacts, identify potential authors from current and emerging opinion leaders, educators and clinicians
§ Manage the yearly commissioning and publishing targets and ensure these areas are well aligned with the growth plans for the organization
§ Work closely with the other Content Strategists where applicable to ensure team targets are addressed
Internal teamwork and collaboration
§ Present new product information at sales conferences.
§ Contribute to formation of marketing plans.
§ Undertake regular field calling with Territory Managers and independently
§ Work closely with sales colleagues to train the sales colleagues on selling propositions of upcoming titles.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experiences (and any other requirements)
§ Graduate in a scientific discipline with 2-3 years of experience in commissioning or related fields
§ Demonstrated understanding of the tertiary educational marketplace in Health Sciences (essential)
§ Understanding of the publishing process (essential)
§ Medical experience (preferred)
§ Experience in commissioning new titles and managing new editions (preferred)
§ Understanding of sales and marketing function in relation to promotion of educational texts and resources (essential)
