Microsoft Dynamics NAV/Business Central Developer


This Job Description (JD) is primarily for a Microsoft Dynamics NAV/Business Central Developer. The key focus is on customization, integration, and development related to Microsoft Dynamics NAV and Business Central, which are enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems used by businesses for managing core operations such as finance, supply chain, and distribution.

Key Skills Required (for a Fresher/experienced):

  1. Basic Understanding of Business Processes:
  • Familiarity with accounting, supply chain, distribution, and manufacturing processes. Even for a fresher, having basic knowledge of how businesses operate in these areas is essential.
  1. Microsoft Dynamics NAV/Business Central:
  • Understanding of Microsoft Dynamics NAV or Business Central (ERP systems) would be crucial. Certification in related disciplines can give you an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Dynamics NAV/Business Central development, installation, and configuration is required. Even if you are a fresher, having familiarity with these ERP systems is beneficial.
  1. Programming Skills:
  • Knowledge of .NET framework and Microsoft SQL Server (MS SQL) is important.
  • Understanding SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) for report writing.
  • Working knowledge of AL (Application Language) and Visual Studio Code for developing within Dynamics NAV/Business Central.
  1. Data Integration:
  • Experience with integrating ERP systems with other applications. Knowing about web services (SOAP & ODATA) for integration in Dynamics NAV/Business Central is essential.
  1. Third-Party Applications and Modules:
  • Experience with third-party applications like Lanham EDI, E-Ship, E-Receive, and Charge Logic is mentioned, but for a fresher, exposure to these areas would be helpful.
  • Functional knowledge of finance, supply chain, and e-commerce modules in the ERP system.
  1. Report Writing and Customization:
  • Learning how to write reports using C/AL (C/AL programming language) and working with Visual Studio is crucial for customizing solutions.
  1. ERP Updates and Upgrades:
  • Ability to install, upgrade, and apply updates to Dynamics NAV/Business Central is a vital part of the job.
  1. Events and Subscribers (Dynamics NAV/Business Central):
  • Understanding of Events and Subscribers in AL to create more modular and extendable code is a skill you'll need to develop.
