Plumber/Pipefitter

Core responsibilities

• Installation: Install, repair, and replace pipes, fittings, and fixtures such as sinks, toilets, showers, and water heaters.
• Maintenance: Conduct regular maintenance on all plumbing systems to prevent issues and ensure they are running efficiently.
• Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair problems, such as leaks, clogs, and pipe bursts, often on an emergency basis.
• System upkeep: Maintain and repair water, heating, and drainage systems, including those for laboratories or specialized equipment.
• Safety and compliance: Ensure all work complies with plumbing codes and regulations.
• Record-keeping: Maintain logs of work performed, materials used, and time spent on jobs.
• Inventory and ordering: Manage an inventory of parts and supplies, reordering as needed.

Skills and qualifications

• Technical skills: Proficiency in reading blueprints, using plumbing tools, and understanding plumbing, heating, and drainage systems.
• Problem-solving: Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities to address issues effectively.
• Physical requirements: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, sometimes in cramped or difficult-to-reach areas.
