Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr Technologist – Methanol to join our team. The successful candidate will lead technological support for manufacturing, focusing on optimizing performance, improving processes, and ensuring the successful execution of plant improvements and technical initiatives. This role requires a deep understanding of methanol production technologies, process optimization, and technical troubleshooting in a methanol plant setting. Key Responsibilities:
  • Manufacturing Support: Provide ongoing technical support to manufacturing to achieve performance targets and enhance plant operations.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Lead the technology input into complex process/engineering issues, conducting root cause analysis and developing solutions to address operational challenges.
  • Process Improvements: Identify and define opportunities for improving existing processes, equipment, and technologies to achieve higher capacities, increased process efficiency, and cost savings.
  • Project Management: Identify, prioritize, and justify plant improvements for PIOs, CAPEX, and REVAMP projects, ensuring their effective implementation.
  • Process Engineering Reviews: Review and evaluate process engineering documents, ensuring that all technical aspects align with best practices and safety standards.
  • Technology Evaluation: Lead the evaluation of new technologies, catalysts, chemicals, additives, and fuels to improve plant performance.
  • Performance Auditing: Conduct audits and benchmarking activities to assess plant, product, and energy performance.
  • Milestone Management: Oversee the achievement of set milestones for pilot projects, scale-up studies, and technology trials.
  • Trend Analysis: Anticipate technological constraints or trends, offering recommendations and alternative solutions for implementation.
  • Commercial Plant Trials: Participate in and support commercial plant trials to validate new technologies or process improvements.
  • Simulation & Modeling: Develop, validate, and maintain simulation models and Advanced Process Control (APC) models for process optimization.
  • Technology Comparison Reports: Prepare detailed reports comparing various technologies, highlighting key performance indicators, and offering recommendations.
  • Process Safety Management (PSM): Actively engage in PSM activities to ensure the plant operates safely and efficiently.
  • Mentoring & Development: Coach and mentor Graduate Engineer Trainees (GETs) and provide support in their on-boarding and professional development.
Required Skills & Competencies:
  • Chemical Engineering Expertise: Extensive knowledge of chemical engineering principles, codes, standards, and process technology related to the methanol industry.
  • Technical Independence: Ability to work independently and take action on technical issues within the field of expertise.
  • Communication & Networking: Strong communication and networking skills to collaborate with various stakeholders, including plant teams, project teams, and technology networks.
  • Problem Solving: Exceptional complex problem-solving abilities, particularly in troubleshooting process-related issues.

Educational Qualifications:
  • Required: Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering
Experience Requirements:
  • Relevant Industry Experience: Minimum of 12 years of industrial experience in chemical or petrochemical industries, with at least 12-15 years of overall technical expertise.
  • Methanol Plant Experience: Significant work experience in methanol production plants, specifically in central technical services or technical support roles.
  • Technology Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of methanol production technologies, including knowledge of various methanol technology suppliers and key features of each.
  • Technical Expertise: Ability to perform technical calculations, evaluations of technical bids, and in-depth analysis of process technology.
