About Defectech

Defectech is building the next generation of automated defect detection for buildings using advanced computer vision and AI. Our B2B we-based platform processes thousands of images to convert them into 3D models and find defects. Defectech was a top three finalist for SXSW Sydney 2025 and was also featured in Forbes Australia.

Role Overview

We are looking for a mid to senior level full-stack engineer who can work across the entire product stack — from frontend UI to backend APIs with a special emphasis on backend programming.

You will work closely with the product and engineering team to ship new product features, improve reliability, and scale the platform. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who loves solving technical challenges and wants to take ownership of a 0→1 product.

What You'll Work On

Frontend (React / Typescript)

• Build new features for user and admin panels.
• Integrate 3D viewers / ) for OBJ and GLB files.
• Implement annotation tools, filters, overlays, and AI UX elements.
• Create responsive UI components and streamline user workflows.

Backend / Python / FastAPI)

• Develop APIs for uploading, processing, and retrieving large 3D assets.
• Integrate with AI inference pipelines (YOLOv8, SAM3, custom models).
• Build endpoints for task management, defect metadata, and project workflows.
• Work with S3 storage systems for large datasets.

Cloud / DevOps

• Improve CI/CD pipelines and containerised services (Docker).
• Optimise backend performance for high-volume processing tasks.

Required Skills

• 4+ years experience in full-stack development.
• Strong proficiency with React, Typescript, and Python.
• Solid backend experience with or Python (FastAPI).
• Experience with REST APIs & microservices.
• Familiarity with AWS/DigitalOcean.
• Comfort working with large files.
• Strong English communication skills.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with , , or any 3D rendering library.
• Understanding of computer vision workflows.
• Experience with ML inference pipelines.
• Familiarity with 3D formats (OBJ, GLB, LAS, PLY, etc.).
