Purpose of the role

The Global Data Controls Design Lead primarily supports the Protect pillar of the strategy as part of the Global Data Management Office (GDMO).Design and enable the data controls framework which is in line with risk appetite, policies, guidelines and regulations across the Bank. Set the strategic direction and metrics for tracking performance on an ongoing basisGovern the data controls through right forums and approval authorities, engaging with Senior Leads for necessary approval and adoptionCollaborate with data operations and execution team to assist translation of policies into actionable stepsCollaborate with Technology, architecture and Data Management representatives from all Global Businesses (GB) / Global Functions (GF)/ Markets to help implement the data controls in line with the policiesOverall accountability for resolving data control related issues challenges triggered from data operations for Business/ Function/ MarketsThe role holder will report to the Director- GDMO-Data Design within Data and Analytics Office (DAO).

Data and Analytics Office (DAO):

The principal goal of the DAO is to transform HSBC into a truly data-led organisation and support the delivery and implementation of the Group Data Strategy. It will drive the delivery of the Group Data Strategy across the 3 pillars - Protect our data, connect to our people, Unlock value for our customers. Starting with clear, unambiguous data definitions and culminating in trusted insight from well managed and controlled data, DAO plays a pivotal role as the data conscience for the Bank.

The responsibilities of the team include setting out and subsequently holding Global Businesses and Functions accountable to follow a unified Data Strategy. This includes ensuring data is unambiguously defined, that it is controlled and managed to an appropriate level of quality, that Businesses/Functions comply with internal data policies and external data regulations, that data is sourced from appropriate (ideally "trusted") sources.

The objectives of the team include playing an active role in coordinating the delivery of strategic data capabilities, providing effective monitoring and controls, consistently reporting and ensuring that the strategic future vision for data across the enterprise is realized.

In this role, you will:

Design Management:

Ownership and accountability of end-to-end delivery of Data Controls design for global or select markets, businesses, and functionsUnderstanding of industry patterns and practices for systems, data and integration with emphasis on enterprise scale technologies(cloud/non-cloud) and business managed toolsExperience in designing complex data programs in the domain of banking and FinanceResponsible for shaping up and tracking design guidelines / changes to bring business closer to data control goalsResponsible for presenting designs in governance forums and engaging with a Senior audience, for approvals and cascade and addressing concerns/ queriesWork closely with all representatives from Operations, Technology, Data and Business and Functions to collaborate on the data controls related topicsInfluence the technology, tooling, architecture teams to build book-of-work for enhancements / changes required for Data Controls implementation.

Non-technology Delivery:

Closely coordinate with design office, controls office and audit for data design related risk and controlsPrioritize the design team Book-of-work for addressing MSIIs, issues, CRsSupport GDMO management reporting and RCMM reporting with required papers, presentations and analysis

Customer Experience:

Contribute to formulation of the strategy around the customer journey and the component parts of this to create a holistic customer experience by prudent expectation setting and managementOwn the user experience for Data Management in support for data control design and implementationRepresent the data control design by understanding the requirements and developing appropriate controls supporting customer needs and wants

Stakeholder management:

Responsible to connect and coordinate with stakeholders from controls, Internal audit, DAO representatives from GB/GFs, IT Product owners, Global Technology, Architects to socialize the design principles and take it to closure with Design authorityRegular coordination with Operations team to stay connected on upcoming change triggersDesign and enable the data controls framework which is in line with risk appetite, policies, guidelines and regulations across the Bank. Knowledge of data uses and flows within a large diversified global bankExperience of using new-gen technologies and storage systemsKnowledge of best practices in data quality monitoring and Issue management.Knowledge of data quality metrics reporting and dashboard designKnowledge of reporting tools and design requirementsSubject matter knowledge on data-related issues, solution, lineage toolsCloud technologies, Business Managed Applications/ tools and working knowledge of AI and analyticsRoot cause analysis and issue resolution

Others

Bachelors/ master's in engineering/ technology, master's in business administration/ computer applications/ Any other Relevant fieldExperience with engagements involving specific areas of Data, Analytics, Architecture (Business / System / Data), System Implementations, Data Engineering, Process Transformation involving system change. [at least experience of some]Experience with engaging with senior stakeholders & business partners from various Geographies across forumsExperience in Risk, Controls and Data related projects, while engaging with multiple Regions and GeographiesWorking experience on some of the technologies like ETLs, EAI, Reporting, Dashboarding, analytics / advanced analytics toolsWorking knowledge of Confluence, JIRA and exposure to Agile approaches.Hands on experience of tools on Transformer / Xceptor / Appian / Alteryx etc.Knowledge of data classification and related regulationsExceptional navigating and influencing skillsA can-do attitude & ability to quickly translate business requirements to Data related activities to be undertaken
