Specialized Spice Industry Experience
- Quality Control and Food Safety Regulations: Significant experience in quality assurance, understanding food science and technology, and adhering to strict national and international regulatory standards for spice production, processing, packaging, and export (e.g., testing for mycotoxins and other contaminants).
- Procurement and Sourcing of Raw Spices: Expertise in sourcing high-quality raw spices, which often involves global travel and managing relationships with diverse suppliers to ensure a constant supply of basic ingredients.
- Product Formulation and Recipe Development: Experience in leveraging expertise in flavors and fragrances to improve existing products and create new spice blends that cater to evolving consumer tastes.
- International Trade and Export Procedures: For companies involved in global trade, experience in managing international market expansion, understanding export documentation, customs procedures, and navigating various international trade regulations.
- Understanding Regional Tastes and Cultural Nuances: The ability to understand and cater to diverse regional consumer preferences and cultural behaviors that influence the buying of specific spices and blends.
Key responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a sales team to meet and exceed sales targets and provide professional development.
- Strategy Development: Develop and implement effective sales strategies and tactics to drive business growth and maximize revenue.
- Sales Performance: Forecast sales, monitor progress, analyze performance metrics, and prepare detailed reports for senior management.
- Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
- Market Analysis: Analyze market trends, identify new business opportunities, and monitor competitor activity.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with marketing, product, and other teams to align sales strategies and objectives with overall business goals.
- Budget Management: Manage sales budgets and allocate resources effectively.
Qualifications and skills
- Proven sales management experience
- Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Proficiency in sales and CRM software
- A bachelor's / Masters degree in business, marketing, or a related field is often preferred
- Experience in developing and implementing strategic sales plans
Core FMCG Skills
- Sales and Distribution Management: Hands-on experience in managing extensive and complex distribution networks, working with wholesalers, retailers, and local kirana stores, and ensuring product availability and visibility across various markets.
- Marketing and Brand Management: Experience in brand positioning, developing creative and innovative marketing campaigns (both traditional and digital), and understanding consumer insights and buying behaviors to build brand loyalty in a highly competitive market.
- Supply Chain and Logistics: Knowledge of managing a complex supply chain involving numerous Stock Keeping Units (SKUs), from sourcing raw materials to delivering finished products efficiently to the end consumer.
- Negotiation and Client Relationship Management: Development of strong negotiation skills for dealing with suppliers, distributors, and large retail buyers, as well as building lasting client relationships.
- Analytical Skills and Data-Driven Decision Making: Proficiency in analyzing sales data, market trends, and consumer feedback to make informed strategic decisions and optimize performance.
- Adaptability and Resilience: Gaining the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, responding quickly to market fluctuations, and managing pressure effectively.
