The ODS Certified Oncology Abstractor will be responsible for accurately abstracting cancer cases from medical records, assigning staging and tumor details, and ensuring compliance with national oncology registry standards. This role requires high attention to detail, strong oncology knowledge, and the ability to work in a structured, quality-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Abstraction & Data Accuracy

  • Abstract oncology cases from EHRs, pathology reports, radiology, operative notes, and treatment records
  • Assign accurate:
  • Primary site
  • Histology and morphology
  • AJCC staging
  • Grade, biomarkers, and tumor characteristics
  • First course of treatment and timelines
  • Ensure adherence to
    NAACCR, CoC, SEER, NPCR, and state registry standards

Quality & Compliance

  • Meet productivity and accuracy benchmarks set by Alpine Pro Health
  • Participate in data validation, audits, and quality assurance reviews
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA-aligned data handling standards

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Work with internal clinical documentation and abstraction leadership
  • Identify data gaps and request clarifications where required
  • Support registry reporting needs for client organizations

Required Qualifications


ODS Certification (Oncology Data Specialist) – Mandatory

Strong understanding of oncology terminology, tumor behavior, staging, and treatment pathways

Experience working with abstraction platforms such as:

  • ERS
  • Metriq
  • CNExT
  • OncoLog
  • Other registry systems
  • Familiarity with ICD-O-3, AJCC staging manuals, and NAACCR standards
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
