The Opportunity
As the Group Audit & Reporting Manager of the NZX and ASX listed company, you will be reporting to the Group Financial Controller and working closely with the Chief Financial Officer, presenting in audit committees and expected to travel to New Zealand during interim and year-end audit periods, with timing subject to when support and oversight are most needed.
You will play a critical role in overseeing financial accounting and ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of financial reporting across the Gentrack Group. A key focus of the role is the end-to-end management of global statutory audits, KPI and assurance reporting, regulatory reporting compliance, and acting as the primary contact for technical accounting guidance and assurance.
You will work closely with both internal stakeholders and external partners, requiring a high degree of autonomy, strong communication skills, and a collaborative mindset. Passion for mentoring and developing team members is essential, as you will be working alongside a team of professional financial accountants & transactional staff.
You will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with IFRS and regional reporting requirements, while also contributing to broader leadership initiatives. This includes supporting strategic growth, leading change management efforts, and driving continuous improvement to strengthen the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance function.
The Specifics
Financial Reporting
- Lead the preparation of the Group's consolidated financials (under IFRS) working closely with the Group Finance Manager and Group Financial Controller.
- Draft Audit Committee Reports on key judgement areas in accounting issues.
- Lead the preparation of regional financial statements under IFRS (or relevant GAAP)
- Ensure compliance with applicable reporting frameworks, stock exchange regulations, and internal controls.
- Collaborate with local finance teams to ensure timely submission of accurate financial information.
- Assist with the KPI and other external financial reporting e.g. covenants reporting.
Statutory Reporting & Audit Management
- Own the end-to-end statutory audit process for the regional legal entities across multiple jurisdictions.
- Coordinate with external auditors to ensure timely completion of audits in accordance with regulatory and listing requirements.
- Drive consistency in accounting and reporting practices across regions.
Technical Accounting & Policy
- Provide technical accounting guidance and ensure consistent application of accounting policies across the Group.
- Monitor changes in accounting standards and regulatory requirements and assess their impact on the business.
- Take the lead on more complex areas of the balance sheet such as leases (IFRS 16) and long-term incentives (LTI) accounting.
- Prepare and maintain accounting policy documents, technical memos, and audit committee reporting papers.
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure process level internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR).
- Ensure compliance with corporate governance, statutory, and audit committee requirements.
People & Process
- Provide leadership and coaching to team members while supporting broader finance functions and deliverables.
- Identify process improvement opportunities in audit readiness and reporting cycles.
- Drive automation and system enhancements for efficient reporting and compliance.
What we're looking for:
Professional experience
- Minimum of 15 years of accountancy and people management experience.
- Big 4 (Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC) or top-tier audit firm experience with a strong focus on audits of listed or multinational companies.
- In addition to preparation of financial statements under IFRS/GAAP, you should have hands-on experience leading or managing complex group audits, including consolidation processes and audit of subsidiaries in multiple jurisdictions dealing with multi-division, multi-department, and multi-currency.
- Proven experience in regulatory reporting and public company governance, including preparation of annual and interim reports in compliance with stock exchange and corporate requirements.
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS e.g. revenue recognition, lease, ESOP, impairment, financial instruments, etc.
- Experience in drafting or reviewing technical position papers and providing internal guidance.
- Experience in reviewing and reporting on internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) at process level.
- Managing (as and where required) and coaching qualified accountants, financial professionals.
- Strong cross-functional engagement, particularly with regional finance teams, auditors, tax, legal, and investor relations.
- Proven ability to work with board-level stakeholders and Audit Committees.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel.
