Engineering Manager – Backend (Spark ) Application :

Are you excited about the transformative power of ecommerce in changing the landscape of grocery retail in India? Bigbasket is creating milestones in the online grocery market and has recently re hauled its supply chains across cities to fulfil a majority of customer orders faster. The company's operations have expanded to 30 cities in India, recording about 15 million customer orders per month.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Application Engineering Manager to lead our Bigdata application engineering team in designing, building, and maintaining applications leveraging big data skills. This role is pivotal in enabling the organization to make data-driven decisions and ensuring high availability, quality, and reliability of our data systems.

What would you be doing/ Expected from this role?


• Team Leadership & Management o Lead, mentor, and grow a team of data application engineers. o Set clear goals, provide regular feedback, and manage performance. o Foster a collaborative, high-performing engineering culture.


• Technical Strategy & Execution o Architect and implement robust, scalable application using big data technologies. o Partner with data scientists, analysts, and software engineers to deliver high-quality solutions.


• Project & Stakeholder Management o Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into technical requirements. o Manage project timelines, prioritize tasks, and ensure timely delivery. o Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies.


• Process Improvement o Establish best practices for engineering, including testing, version control, and documentation. o Evaluate and integrate new technologies and tools as appropriate. o Continuously improve system performance, cost, and scalability.

Who are we looking for?


• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.


• 9+ years of experience in data engineering or software engineering.


• 2+ years of experience in a leadership or managerial role.


• Expertise in SQL and data modelling.


• Strong proficiency in Python, Scala spark.


• Experience with data pipeline orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow).


• Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, EMR).


• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and services like S3, Redshift.


• Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts and real-time data streaming (e.g., Kafka).


• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to balance technical leadership with people management.
