Manager Utilities Operation

Job Purpose:
To lead and manage the operation and maintenance of all utility systems critical to dairy processing, including refrigeration (ammonia systems), boilers, RO plants, cooling towers, air compressors, and HVAC systems. Ensure reliable and efficient utility services while implementing TPM and modern maintenance practices for continuous improvement and asset optimization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilities Operation & Maintenance :
- Oversee round-the-clock operation and maintenance of key utilities:
- Ammonia-based refrigeration systems (milk chilling, cold storage, blast freezing)
- Boilers & steam distribution systems
- RO water treatment plants for CIP and process use
- Cooling towers and chilled water circulation
- Compressed air systems, HVAC, and hot water systems
- Ensure 100% uptime of utilities to support milk reception, processing, packaging, and storage.
- Optimize energy and water usage across utilities with focus on sustainability.
- Maintain critical spares and consumables; plan shutdowns and turnarounds efficiently.
- TPM & Advanced Maintenance Practices:
- Lead the implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) pillars Autonomous Maintenance, Planned Maintenance, Kaizen, and Focused Improvement.
- Deploy predictive and condition-based maintenance techniques using tools like vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis.
- Conduct regular Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for equipment failures and initiate corrective actions.
- Monitor and drive improvements in MTTR, MTBF, and OEE for utility equipment.
- Regulatory Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure adherence to all statutory requirements boiler inspections, pollution control board norms, energy audits, etc.
- Keep all operational and maintenance documentation updated for regulatory and internal audits.
- Enforce safety protocols and risk assessments, especially for high-risk utilities like ammonia plants and boilers.
- Team Development & Management:
- Supervise and mentor a team of utility engineers, supervisors, and technicians.
- Schedule and facilitate regular training on SOPs, TPM, energy efficiency, and safety.
- Foster a proactive culture of ownership, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering
- Experience: 1015 years in Utility Operations & Maintenance in a Dairy / Food Processing Industry
- Certifications Preferred: Boiler Proficiency, Ammonia Handling, TPM, Energy Management
- Key Skills & Competencies:
- Dairy plant utility operations expertise
- TPM & predictive maintenance methodology
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Team leadership and cross-functional collaboration
