  • Passenger Assistance: Greeting passengers, assisting with check-in, verifying travel documents, issuing boarding passes, and guiding them to gates.
  • Baggage Handling: Tagging, sorting, loading, and unloading luggage and cargo from aircraft, and managing lost or damaged baggage inquiries.
  • Aircraft Support: Guiding aircraft to and from parking stands (marshalling), coordinating refueling, catering, and cleaning services, and performing pre-flight safety checks.
  • Safety and Security: Ensuring compliance with all aviation safety and security regulations, monitoring airport areas, and reporting suspicious activity.
  • Problem Resolution: Handling passenger inquiries, resolving issues such as flight delays or cancellations, and assisting passengers with special needs (e.g., unaccompanied minors, individuals with disabilities).
  • Coordination: Collaborating with flight crews, other ground staff, airline personnel, and security teams to ensure seamless operations.

Key Skills and Qualifications

Successful airport staff members require a specific set of skills and qualifications:

  • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is generally the minimum requirement; a diploma or degree in aviation or hospitality is a plus.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills (fluency in English and local languages is often required).
  • Interpersonal Skills: Patience, empathy, a positive attitude, and strong customer service abilities for interacting with diverse passengers.
  • Physical Stamina: The ability to work long shifts, stand for extended periods, and potentially lift heavy objects (for baggage handling roles).
  • Adaptability: The capacity to work under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
