Job Description:

A Senior Electrician job description includes the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, troubleshooting complex issues, ensuring code compliance, and supervising junior electricians. They are responsible for planning and implementing electrical upgrades, performing preventative maintenance, and keeping detailed records of all work. This role requires a high level of experience, a valid license, and strong knowledge of safety procedures, electrical schematics, and various electrical tools.  

Key responsibilities

  • Installation and Repair: 
    Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, machinery, and equipment in various settings, such as commercial or industrial facilities. 


  • Troubleshooting: 
    Diagnose and repair complex electrical issues and respond to emergencies like power outages to minimize disruption. 


  • Compliance and Safety: 
    Ensure all work complies with electrical codes, safety standards, and regulations. 


  • Maintenance: 
    Conduct routine inspections and perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems to ensure reliability and efficiency. 


  • Supervision: 
    Supervise, train, and mentor junior electricians and other maintenance staff. 


  • Project Management: 
    Assist in the planning and implementation of electrical upgrades and improvements, and coordinate with other departments and contractors. 


  • Record Keeping: 
    Maintain accurate and detailed records of all electrical work, inspections, and maintenance activities. 



Required skills and qualifications
  • Proven experience as an electrician. 
     
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including high, medium, and low voltage, as well as control systems, motors, and PLCs. 
     
  • Proficiency with electrical and hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and power tools. 
     
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and diagrams. 
     
  • Deep understanding of electrical safety procedures and legal regulations. 
     
  • Physical ability to perform demanding tasks, such as climbing, lifting, and working in various environments. 
     
  • Valid Master Electrician license or equivalent certification. 
     
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical college degree or apprenticeship completion is common.
